    Abstract : The effects of greenhouse gas net emissions on global warming, stricter legislation on waste handling, and the pursuit of ever cheaper heat- and power production are all important factors driving the introduction of complex fuels in incineration plants. However - without fundamental knowledge regarding ash transformation, corrosion control, and materials selection – this introduction of potentially economically and environmentally beneficial fuels, might instead cause economic loss and environmentally adverse effects. 2. 2. Characterisation of Fuels and Fly Ashes from Co-Combustion of Biofuels and Waste Fuels in a Fluidised Bed Boiler. A Phosphorus and Alkali Perspective

    Author : Anita Pettersson; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phosphorus recovery; co-combustion; fluidised bed combustion; olivine; Biofuels; zeolites; fertiliser; extraction; refuse derived fuels; kaolin; alkali; sulphur; ash; municipal sewage sludge;

    Abstract : In the efforts to create sustainable production of heat and power and to reduce the net CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, alternative fuels are today being utilised. These fuels are, for example, biofuels and waste derived fuels such as different residues from the agricultural sector and the pulp and paper industry, municipal sewage sludge and municipal sorted solid waste. 3. 3. Hydration, pore structure, and related moisture properties of fly ash blended cement-based materials : Experimental methods and laboratory measurements

    Author : Oskar Linderoth; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cement; Murbruk; Betong; Hydratation; Porstruktur; Sorption; Fukttransport; Mineraliska tillsatsmaterial; Flygaska; Cement; Mortar; Concrete; Hydration; Pore structure; Water vapour sorption; Moisture transport; Supplementary cementitious materials; Fly ash;

    Abstract : Cement-based materials, such as mortar and concrete, are the most employed construction materials in the world. Cement is an important component; it reacts with water to form a glue, called cement paste, which causes the material to harden. Today, cement production accounts for a significant portion of the world’s annual carbon dioxide emissions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Suitability of fly ash for construction and land applications

    Author : Evelina Brännvall; Alessandra Polettini; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Waste Science and Technology; Avfallsteknik;

    Abstract : Municipal solid waste incineration fly ash is often landfilled or sent abroad for stabilization because it is considered a hazardous waste. These approaches to fly ash are both costly, and highlight the need for alternative and sustainable ash recycling. READ MORE

  5. 5. Waste incineration residues : Persistent organic pollutants in flue gas and fly ash from waste incineration

    Author : Eva Weidemann; Lisa Lundin; Stellan Marklund; Jean-Francois Boily; Henrik Bristav; Kees Olie; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Modern societies produce large quantities of municipal solid waste (MSW), which is commonly disposed of by incineration. This has several advantages: it reduces the waste’s volume and sterilizes it while also enabling energy recovery. READ MORE
