1. Three-dimensional structured carbon foam : synthesis and applications
Abstract : Recently, due to the unique properties and structures such as large geometric surface area, electrical conductivity and light weight, 3D structured carbon materials have been attracting extensive attention from scientists. Moreover, the materials, which can provide well-defined pathways for reactants to easily access active sites, are extremely useful for energy conversion as well as environmental and catalysis applications. 2. Foam Formation and Starch Gelatinization with Alpha-Crystalline Emulsifiers
Abstract : In the baking industry, emulsifiers in the alpha-gel state are used for foam formation. This thesis focuses on some parts of the effects of the emulsifier: how the foam formation and foam stability are influenced by the physical state of the emulsifier, how emulsifiers change the gelatinization and gel formation of starch, and the impact that these factors may have in a true product such as a sponge cake. 3. Finite element modelling of the mechanics of solid foam materials
Abstract : Failure of bi-material interfaces is studied with the aim to quantify the influence of the induced stress concentrations on the strength of the interfaces. A simple point-stress criterion, used in conjunction with finite element calculations, is evaluated to provide strength predictions for bi-material bonded joints and inserts in polymer foam. 4. Morphology Characterization of Foam Bitumen and Modeling for Low Temperature Asphalt Concrete
Abstract : Development of new asphalt technologies to reduce both energy consumption and CO2 production has attracted great interest in recent years. The use of foam bitumen, as one of them, is attractive due to the low investment and production cost. READ MORE

5. Foam Core Materials for High Performance Sandwich Constructions: Preparation, Testing and Properties
Abstract : The basic task for foams used as core materials in sandwich constructions is to separate the skin layers in order to enhance stiffness with little contribution to the total weight. However, modern design in sandwich technology require that core materials contribute to the perfor-mance with specific mechanical and physical properties. READ MORE
