  2. 2. Force Budget Analysis of Glacier Flow : Ice Dynamical Studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Ice Flow Investigations of Outlet Glaciers in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica

    Author : Jim Hedfors; Veijo Pohjola; Else Kolstrup; Niels Reeh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical geography and sedimentology; force budget; ice flux; ice dynamics; mass balance; strain heating; climate change; Storglaciären; Dronning Maud Land; Antarctica; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to the understanding of glacier response to climate change by ice dynamical studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Bonnevie-Svendsenbreen, Kibergbreen and Plogbreen in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. Ice surface velocities, ice geometry and temperature information is fed through a force budget model to calculate ice mass outflux of these glacial systems via three-dimensional stress distributions for a flux-gate. 3. 3. Compression Mechanics of Powders and Granular Materials Probed by Force Distributions and a Micromechanically Based Compaction Equation

    Author : Foad Mahmoodi; Göran Frenning; Bruno Hancock; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : compression; powder; mechanical properties; pellet; tablet; compaction equation; force distribution;

    Abstract : The internal dynamics of powder systems under compression are as of yet not fully understood, and thus there is a necessity for approaches that can help in further clarifying and enhancing the level of understanding on this subject. To this end, the internal dynamics of powder systems under compression were probed by means of force distributions and a novel compaction equation. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the wood chipping process : a study on basic mechanisms in order to optimize chip properties for pulping

    Author : Lisbeth Hellström; Torbjörn Carlberg; Per Engstrand; Sören Östlund; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood chipping; Chip formation; Digital Speckle Photography; Friction; Fracture Processes; Analytical model; Laboratory Wood Chipper; Force Measurement; Vibration Synthesis; Energy Efficiency; Chip Damage; TMP; CTMP; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik;

    Abstract : In both the chemical and mechanical pulping process, the logs are cut into wood chips by a disc chipper before fibre separation. To make the wood chipping process more efficient, one have to investigate in detail the coupling between process parameters and the quality of the chips. READ MORE

  5. 5. Spatio-temporal processing of surface electromyographic signals : information on neuromuscular function and control

    Author : Christer Grönlund; Leif Sörnmo; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EMG; multichannel surface electromyography; motor unit action potentials; conduction velocity; muscle architecture; signal quality; spatial distributions; synchronization; muscle function; motor control; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Abstract : During muscle contraction, electrical signals are generated by the muscle cells. The analysis of those signals is called electromyography (EMG). The EMG signal is mainly determined by physiological factors including so called central factors (central nervous system origin) and peripheral factors (muscle tissue origin). READ MORE
