  1. 1. In-plane Compressive Response of Sandwich Panels

    Author : Anders Lindström; Dan Zenkert; Stefan Hallström; Leif Carlsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sandwich; Finite Element Analysis FEA ; Fracture; In-plane compression; Other engineering mechanics; Övrig teknisk mekanik; Structural and vibration physics; Struktur- och vibrationsfysik;

    Abstract : The high specific bending stiffness of sandwich structures can with advantage be used in vehicles to reduce their weight and thereby potentially also their fuel consumption. However, the structure must not only meet the in-service requirements but also provide sufficient protection of the vehicle passengers in a crash situation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of a Morphology-based Analysis Framework for Asphalt Pavements

    Author : Ibrahim Onifade; Björn Birgisson; Nicole Kringos; Denis Jelagin; William G. Buttlar; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Morphology; damage; X-ray computed tomography; top-down cracking; fracture; Morfologi; skador; röntgendatortomografi; ’top-down’sprickbildning; fraktur; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : The morphology of asphalt mixtures plays a vital role in their properties and behaviour. The work in this thesis is aimed at developing a fundamental understanding of the effect of the asphalt morphology on the strength properties and deformation mechanisms for development of morphology-based analysis framework for long-term response prediction. 3. 3. Pavement Response to Moving Loads

    Author : Parisa Khavassefat; Björn Birgisson; Denis Jelagin; Andrew Collop; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The response of flexible pavements at vehicle-road interaction has been studied in this thesis. A quasi-static and a dynamic framework for analysing the pavement structure under moving load has been developed. Both frameworks are general, robust and computationally efficient. READ MORE

  4. 4. Frictional Effects on Hertzian Contact and Fracture

    Author : Denis Jelagin; Per-Lennart Larsson; Bertil Storåkers; David Hills; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Contact mechanics; Elastic material; Friction; Nanoindentation; Fracture; Solid mechanics; Fastkroppsmekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses normal axisymmetric contact of dissimilar elastic solids at finite interfacial friction. It is shown that in the case of smooth and convex but otherwise arbitrary contact profiles and monotonically increasing loading a single stick-slip contour evolves being independent of loading and profile geometry. 5. 5. Fracture mechanics analysis of concrete structures

    Author : Ulf Ohlsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents results from numerical and analytical analyses of concrete structures as well as results from laboratory tests. Numerical methods based on the finite element method and fracture mechanics are used. The thesis comprises five papers and a general introductory part. READ MORE
