  1. 1. Francisella tularensis: persistence, dissemination and source attribution : a theoretical and computational approach

    Author : Chinmay Kumar Dwibedi; Anders Johansson; Pär Larsson; Markus Antwerpen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Francisella; genomics; evolution; microbial forensics; dispersal; persistence; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : The bacterium Francisella tularensis causing tularemia in humans and other mammals displays little genetic diversity among genomes across temporal and spatial scales. F. tularensis infects humans with an extremely low infectious dose and causes natural seasonal tularemia outbreaks. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cutaneous resistance against Francisella tularensis

    Author : Stephan Stenmark; Mikael Rhen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : tularemia; Francisella tularensis; skin; protection; cytokines; T-cells; B-cells; specific antibodies; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : Francisella tularensis, the causative agent of tularemia, is a potent pathogen in humans and other mammals. The ulceroglandular form of the disease is the most common expression in humans with a clinical picture characterized by a skin ulcer, enlarged regional lymph nodes and fever. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic genealogy and epidemiology of Francisella

    Author : Kerstin Svensson; Anders Johansson; Mats Forsman; Sam R. Telford III; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Francisella tularensis; tularemia; genotyping; epidemiology; GIS; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : This thesis is about analyzing genetic differences among isolates of Francisella tularensis – the tularemia-causing bacterium. To elucidate how these bacterial isolates are related, and their geographical and genetic origins, I have developed typing assays for Francisella and used them to study the epidemiology of tularemia. 4. 4. Determining the role of guanylate-binding proteins for host defense against Francisella tularensis

    Author : Nasibeh Mohammadi; Anders Sjöstedt; Wolfgang P. Schröder; Anetta S. Härtlova; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Francisella tularensis; Guanylate-binding proteins; bone marrow-derived macrophages; IFN-γ activation; cytokine patterns; inflammasome pathways; co-infection; mouse co-culture model; Biochemistry; biokemi; immunologi; Immunology; mikrobiologi; Microbiology; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Infectious Diseases; infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : Francisella tularensis is a highly virulent, intracellular bacterium and the causative agent of the human disease tularemia. This is a zoonotic, often vector-borne disease. Due to its intracellular nature, F. READ MORE

  5. 5. The aquatic microbial food web and occurence of predation-resistant and potentially pathogenic bacteria, such as Francisella tularensis

    Author : Johanna Thelaus; Agneta Andersson; Mats Forsman; Farooq Azam; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacteria; protozoa; ecology; predation; nutrient-availability; microbial food web; model; predation-resistance; Francisella; reservoir; biofilm formation; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi;

    Abstract : All natural aquatic systems harbour a vast variety of microorganisms. In the aquatic microbial food web, the larger microorganisms (i.e. protozoa) feed on the smaller microorganisms (i. READ MORE
