  2. 2. Optically poled fibers for electro-optic applications

    Author : Joao Manoel Barbosa Pereira; Fredrik Laurell; Walter Margulis; Stavros Pissadaki; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis shows the development of optically poleddevices for use in electro-optic experiments. In the form of papers published,it describes three optical poling methods: green light poling (Paper I), poling with a UV lamp (Paper II), and corona discharge poling (Paper V). READ MORE

  3. 3. Diode-pumped rare-earth-doped quasi-three-level lasers

    Author : Stefan Bjurshagen; Fredrik Laurell; Markus Pollnau; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Optics; laser optics; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Many rare-earth-doped materials are suitable for laser operation and this thesis focuses on diode-pumped solid-state lasers employing crystals doped with the trivalent rare-earth ions neodymium (Nd3+), ytterbium (Yb3+) and erbium (Er3+). Especially, the quasi-three-level transitions in Nd and Yb have been studied as well as the eye-safe three-level transition around 1. READ MORE

  4. 4. Domain engineering in KTiOPO4

    Author : Carlota Canalias; Fredrik Laurell; Benoît Boulanger; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quasi-phase matching; KTiOPO4; ferroelectric domains; atomic force microscopy; periodic electric field poling; polarization switching; second harmonic generation; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Abstract : Ferroelectric crystals are commonly used in nonlinear optics for frequency conversion of laser radiation. The quasi-phase matching (QPM) approach uses a periodically modulated nonlinearity that can be achieved by periodically inverting domains in ferroelectric crystals and allows versatile and efficient frequency conversion in the whole transparency region of the material.
