  2. 22. Numerical stability studies of one-phase and immiscible two-phase jets and wakes

    Author : Outi Tammisola; Daniel Söderberg; Fredrik Lundell; Rama Govindarajan; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : The initial linear instability growth of two-dimensional plane wakes and jetsis investigated, by temporal two-dimensional global modes, and local spatialstability analysis. Comparisons are also made to experiments, direct numericalsimulations, and methods designed for weakly-non-parallel flows. READ MORE

  3. 23. Rapid wetting - influence of surface geometry and fluid properties

    Author : Susumu Yada; Fredrik Lundell; Shervin Bagheri; Minh Do-Quang; Gustav Amberg; Jacco Snoeijer; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wetting; spreading; surface structures; droplet; contact line; two-phase flow; non-Newtonian flow; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Wetting of a liquid on a solid surface is ubiquitous in everyday life, such as morning dew on a plant leaf and raindrops hitting on a glass window. However, this phenomenon is far away from being completely understood. READ MORE

  4. 24. Experimental studies of large particles in Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids

    Author : Sagar Zade; Luca Brandt; Fredrik Lundell; Ellen Longmire; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulence; finite-size; particle-laden flows; duct flow; pipe flow; viscoelastic fluid; viscoplastic fluid; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : In everyday human life, laminar flow is arguably an exception whereas turbulent flow is the norm. Yet, the former has been much better understood, naturally since laminar flow renders itself to treatment in a relatively easier fashion compared to turbulence with its chaotic dynamics across multiple scales in space and time. 5. 25. Eulerian Numerical Study of the Sedimentation of Fibre Suspensions

    Author : Feng Zhang; Anders Dahlkild; Fredrik Lundell; Staffan Lundström; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fokker-Planck equation; particle fluid flow; suspension; instability;

    Abstract :  Sedimenting suspensions exist in a varity of natural phenomena and industrial applications. It is already observed in experiments that the dilute fibre suspensions experience a hydrodynamics instability under gravity at low Reynolds numbers. Initially well-mixed suspensions become inhomogeneous and anisotropic due to this instability. READ MORE
