1. Treatment of arsenic contaminated drinking water from the sources around the gold mining areas of Geita and Mara, Tanzania : Removal efficiency of locally available materials, bauxite, gypsum and magnesite
Abstract : In recent years, high arsenic (As) levels of about 300 µg/L have been reported around the gold mining areas of Geita and Mara regions within the Lake Victoria basin (LVB) in Tanzania. During a sampling campaign at Geita and Mara, the groundwater and surface water samples revealed the presence of high As concentrations as well as Fe and sulfide. READ MORE

2. Batch Sorption Studies of Aqueous Cadmium and Lead from Contaminated Water onto Selected Biosorbents
Abstract : Groundwater, wastewater, surface runoff and surface water samples from Lake Victoria basin, Uganda was assessed for trace metals contamination. Untreated, base-treated and peroxide-treated biosorbents from Albizia coriaria, Coffea canephora, Cyperus papyrus, Erythrina abyssinica and Musa spp were investigated for removal of selected trace metals from contaminated water in batch studies. 3. Chitosan biopolymer as an adsorbent for drinking water treatment : Investigation on Arsenic and Uranium
Abstract : In many countries over the world (including Sweden), metal toxicity in freshwater resources causes a severe drinking water quality problem and poses a threat to the environment and human health. Among the different toxic metals in the water resources of Sweden, arsenic and uranium are the biggest threats to health. READ MORE

4. Groundwater defluoridation by natural minerals : Understanding the process of fluoride removal from drinking water sources in Tanzania
Abstract : Fluoride (F-) concentration in drinking water is one of the water quality parameters in countries with high concentrations in groundwater sources. Natural minerals have shown considerable effectiveness in F- removal. READ MORE

5. Chloride Transport in Concrete - Measurement and Prediction
Abstract : This doctoral work has been carried out to try to classify the basic theories involved in chloride transport in concrete, and at the same time to develop a measurement method and a prediction model for concrete structures submerged in sea water. Chloride binding accompanies almost all the transport processes and has a significant influence on chloride transport. READ MORE
