  1. 1. Development of Enhanced Analytical Methodology in Pesticide Chemistry

    Author : Tuija Pihlström; Karin E Markides; Bengt-Göran Österdahl; Amadeo Rodríguez Fernández-Alba; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The analysis of pesticide residues in fruit, vegetables, rape seed and water has been improved using developments in sample handling and analytical techniques. The method development is associated with analytical difficulties, since pesticides currently used in agriculture represent a variety of chemical classes having very different physico chemical properties. Abstract : In the work presented this thesis, two different conditions that are classified as protein misfolding diseases: Alzheimer's disease and lysozyme amyloidosis and proteins that could have a beneficial effect in these diseases, have been studied using Drosophila melanogaster, commonly known as the fruit fly. The fruit fly has been used for over 100 years to study and better understand fundamental biological processes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fungal production and solid state chemistry of eritadenine : an integrated approach to development of an active pharmaceutical ingredient

    Author : Josefine Enman; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : The present thesis demonstrates an integrated approach to the development of a potential active pharmaceutical ingredient, eritadenine, a cholesterol reducing compound originating from the shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edodes). The main areas covered in the thesis are a method for quantification of eritadenine, production of eritadenine by submerged cultivation of fungal mycelia and investigation of the influence of process parameters on mycelial growth and production, and finally solid state characterizations of eritadenine.
