  1. 6. Pharmaceutical compounds; a new challenge for wastewater treatment plants

    Author : Maja Dlugolecka; Elzbieta Plaza; Bengt Hultman; Nicklas Paxéus; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; activated sludge; biodegradation; granular activated carbon GAC ; membrane bioreactor MBR ; pharmaceutical compounds; wastewater; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Analytical analyses conducted at the Himmerfjärden WWTP (285.000 PE connected) identified 70 pharmaceutical compounds belonging to different therapeutic classes. Such organic micropollutants at low detected concentration range of µg - ng l-1 did not affect the treatment processes at WWTP. READ MORE

  2. 7. How can data science contribute to a greener world? : an exploration featuring machine learning and data mining for environmental facilities and energy end users

    Author : Dong Wang; Mats Tysklind; Johan Trygg; Lili Jiang; Venkat Venkatasubramanian; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wastewater treatment; Process analytics; Big data; Machine learning; Interpretable AI; Power plants; Failure analysis; Data mining; Buildings; Energy consumption; Anomaly detection;

    Abstract : Human society has taken many measures to address environmental issues. For example, deploying wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) to alleviate water pollution and the shortage of usable water; using waste-to-energy (WtE) plants to recover energy from the waste and reduce its environmental impact. 3. 8. Modern Artificial Recharge Plants : Combining chemical flocculation with aquifer recharge

    Author : Kristofer Hägg; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Natural organic matter NOM ; Chemical flocculation; Ultrafiltration membrane; Disc filtration; Managed Aquifer Recharge;

    Abstract : Water supply security is increasingly becoming a challenge worldwide. Surface waters, which are often used for drinking water production, have experienced an increase in natural organic matter (NOM) and frequency of algae blooms. Water quantity is also an issue due to increasing populations and potable water demand. READ MORE

  4. 9. Heat-transfer Enhancement for Slurries from Biogas Plants− Properties, processes, and thermal systems

    Author : Jingjing Chen; Xiaoyan Ji; Bona Lu; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; heat-transfer enhancement; slurry; rheological properties; computational fluid dynamics; twisted tubes; biogas production; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract :  Biomethane production from renewable residues with anaerobic digestion gains increasing attention as a crucial alternative to petroleum fuels. It has been vigorously developed, but the large amounts of subsidy from the government indicate that the process efficiency needs to be further improved. READ MORE

  5. 10. Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal -Processes, Competing Substances and Tools for Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants

    Author : Eva Tykesson; Vattenförsörjnings- och avloppsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Miljöteknik; pollution control; Environmental technology; chemical precipitation; glycogen accumulating organisms; polyphosphate accumulating organisms; wastewater treatment; biological phosphorus removal; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Abstract : The idea of phosphorus removal at wastewater treatment plants is to transfer dissolved phosphorus into a solid phase. Together with the rest of the produced sludge it is then removed from the water, resulting in a decreased concentration of phosphorus in the effluent and the prevention of the eutrophication in the recipient.
