  1. 1. Functional Capacity as a Predictor of Everyday Functioning in Patients with Schizophrenia

    Author : Anna-Karin Olsson; Lars Helldin; Fredrik Hjärthag; Arto Hiltunen; Torill Ueland; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Schizophrenia; Functional capacity; Everyday functioning; Self-awareness; Assessment instrument; Psykologi; Psychology;

    Abstract : The overall purpose of this thesis is to increase knowledge of the concept of functional capacity and how it is related to everyday functioning for adult patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders. The thesis comprises three papers (Papers I-III) based on empirical data from a clinically representative sample of outpatients. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nutritional status and functional capacity in elderly people with hip fracture

    Author : Margaretha Bachrach-Lindström; Ingalill Rahm Hallberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : elderly people; functional capacity; hip fractnre; mental impairment; nutritional status; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The aim was to study nutritional status and functional capacity in elderly men and women admitted to hospital with a hip fractnre, and to evaluate the effect of nutritional intervention and surgical method. A total of 176 patients participated in the study. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quality of life and functional capacity among elderly with locomotor disability

    Author : Gunnel Gustafsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Aged; elderly; locomotion; disability; functional capacity; life satisfaction; assessment; quality of life; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The aims of this study were to investigate the prevalence of locomotor disturbances among elderly and the consequences for their life situation, and to test two well-documented American tools on disabled elderly.Screening tests among elderly in two Swedish counties showed that 22 per cent of those aged 60 and above reported difficulties in mobility. 4. 4. Functional Traits in Sphagnum

    Author : Fia Bengtsson; Håkan Rydin; Gustaf Granath; Cronberg Nils; Sari Juutinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peat mosses; functional traits; NPP; decay resistance; N2 fixation; desiccation resistance; climate; Biology with specialization in Ecological Botany; Biologi med inriktning mot ekologisk botanik;

    Abstract : Peat mosses (Sphagnum) are ecosystem engineers that largely govern carbon sequestration in northern hemisphere peatlands. I investigated functional traits in Sphagnum species and addressed the questions: (I) Are growth, photosynthesis and decomposition and the trade-offs between these traits related to habitat or phylogeny?, (II) Which are the determinants of decomposition and are there trade-offs between metabolites that affect decomposition?, (III) How do macro-climate and local environment determine growth in Sphagnum across the Holarctic?, (IV) How does N2 fixation vary among different species and habitats?, (V) How do species from different microtopographic niches avoid or tolerate desiccation, and are leaf and structural traits adaptations to growth high above the water table?Photosynthetic rate and decomposition in laboratory conditions (innate growth and decay resistance) were related to growth and decomposition in their natural habitats. 5. 5. First-Principles Studies of Materials Properties : Pressure-Induced Phase Transitions & Functional Materials

    Author : Thanayut Kaewmaraya; Rajeev Ahuja; Scheicher Ralph; Naurang Saini; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Density functional theory; Pressure-induced phase transitions; Ab-initio molecular dynamic; hybrid functional; Ab-initio random structure searching; Phase change material; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the first-principles studies of materials properties within the framework of the density functional theory (DFT). The thesis constitutes three main parts, i. e., pressure-induced phase transitions in solids, data-storage and clean-energy materials. READ MORE
