  1. 21. Functional residual capacity – development of new monitoring techniques for critically ill patients

    Author : Cecilia Olegård; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FRC functional residual capacity EELV end-expiratory lung volume volume dependent compliance VDC acute respiratory failure recruitment manouvre PEEP;

    Abstract : Functional residual capacity (FRC) and end-expiratory lung volume (EELV) are important parameters for respiratory monitoring in critically ill adult and paediatric patients. Until now we have lacked clinically useful methods to measure these lung volumes. READ MORE

  2. 22. Increasing the hosting capacity of distributed energy resources using storage and communication

    Author : Nicholas Etherden; Sami Repo; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Renewable Energy Generation; Energy Storage; Hosting Capacity; Curtailment; Demand Response; Dynamic Line Rating; Power System Communication; Smart Grid; Förnyelsebara energikällor; Energilagring; Acceptansgräns; Kommunikation i kraftsystem; Smarta elnät; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik; Electric Power Engineering; Elkraftteknik;

    Abstract : The use of electricity from Distributed Energy Resources like wind and solar powerwill impact the performance of the electricity network and this sets a limit to theamount of such renewables that can be connected. Investment in energy storage andcommunication technologies enables more renewables by operating the networkcloser to its limits. READ MORE

  3. 23. Computational Insights on Functional Materials for Clean Energy Storage : Modeling, Structure and Thermodynamics

    Author : Tanveer Hussain; Rajeev Ahuja; Caetano R. Miranda; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Density functional theory; Molecular dynamics; Hydrogen storage; Chemisorption; Physisorption; Functionalization; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : The exponential increase in the demands of world’s energy and the devastating effects of current fossil fuels based sources has forced us to reduce our dependence on the current sources as well as finding cleaner, cheaper and renewable alternates. Being abundant, efficient and renewable, hydrogen can be opted as the best possible replacement of the diminishing and harmful fossil fuels. READ MORE

    Author : Kristina Tödt; Anna Efverman; Maria Engström; Magnus Ekström; Marlene Malmström; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fatigue; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; cancer; daily activity; health-related quality of life; mental health; physical capacity; physical activity; radiotherapy; work ability; fatigue; kroniskt obstruktiv lungsjukdom; cancer; daglig aktivitet; hälsorelaterad livskvalitet; oro och nedstämdhet; fysisk kapacitet; fysisk aktivitet; strålbehandling; arbetsförmåga;

    Abstract : Syfte: Avhandlingen studerade sambandet mellan fatigue (trötthet) och valda inverkande faktorer, funktionsförmåga (fysisk och daglig aktivitet och arbetsförmåga) samt med hälsorelaterad livskvalitet (HRQL) vid kroniskt obstruktiv lungsjukdom (KOL) och vid cancer. Metod: Patienter med KOL (n=121, delarbete I-II) och patienter med cancer under pågående strålbehandling (n=457, delarbete III) studerades i tvärsnittsstudier. 5. 25. Functional appliance treatment and stability in Class II/1 malocclusion, and masticatory muscle characteristics

    Author : Gregory Antonarakis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Class II malocclusion; functional appliances; masticatory muscles; stability; ultrasonography; bite force;

    Abstract : Aims: To evaluate the short-term antero-posterior effects on Class II division 1 malocclusion in growing children using functional appliances, and investigate whether the functional capacity of the masticatory musculature can be used as a predictive variable in determining the treatment and post-treatment effects following functional appliance treatment. Material and Methods: Firstly, a literature search was carried out identifying prospective clinical trials on the treatment of Class II malocclusion using functional appliances or/and headgear in growing children.
