  1. 1. Catalyst Design for the Valorisation of Biomass-derived Furans into Aromatics

    Author : Guido J.L. de Reijer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aromatics; 2; 5-dimethylfuran; gallium; biomass; furans; production of aromatics; zeolites; biomass conversion; catalysis;

    Abstract : Anno 2023, mankind must strive towards a more sustainable chemical industry; one that does not solely rely on fossil fuels but also utilises renewable feedstocks such as biomass. Biomass can be catalytically converted into commodity chemicals such as aromatics, through intermediates like furans. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of new Catalytic Methods for the Selective Synthesis of Heterocycles

    Author : Stalin Reddy Pathi Pati; Nicklas Selander; Masaharu Nakamura; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; catalysis; indium; heterocycles; Lewis acid; multicomponent reactions; furans; alkynes; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : In the field of organic chemistry, the development of new catalytic methods for the synthesis of complex molecules from simple precursors is a top priority. The main focus of this thesis concerns the diastereoselective synthesis of heterocyclic compounds using main group elements as Lewis acid catalysts. READ MORE

  3. 3. Source-specific volatile organic compounds in human breath, wood smoke and biogas

    Author : Susan Björkqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; VOC; cymene; furans; methane; SBS; isoprene; limonene;

    Abstract : Volatile biogenic compounds are often overlooked in air quality studies. This work deals with the analysis of specific organic compounds of biogenic origin and with their sources. General aspects of indoor air chemistry and measurements of volatile organic compounds in indoor air are also discussed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans : from source of emission to human exposure

    Author : Filip Bjurlid; Jessika Hagberg; Bert van Bavel; Ingrid Ericson Jogsten; Peter Haglund; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PBDD Fs; PCDD Fs; marine mammal; combustion; fire; human milk; occupational exposure;

    Abstract : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs), which are ubiquitous in modern life and the environment, are the major source for polybrominated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PBDD/Fs). The knowledge about PBDD/Fs is lim-ited compared to other environmental pollutants, even though PBDD/Fs show similar toxicity as polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PCDD/Fs) which are considered to be among the most toxic man-made substances. Abstract : AbstractTransition from fossil- to bio-based economy is a critical step towards reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and climate change, and hence for achievement of sustainable communities and environment. In order to be fossil-free, the chemical and material industry is in need of carbon-neutral building blocks from renewable resources for the diverse array of products that are currently produced from olefins and aromatics.
