  1. 11. Exploration of extended Higgs sectors, development of a displaced track trigger, and improvements in GRID middleware

    Author : Max Isacson; Elin Bergeås Kuutmann; Patrizia Azzi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BSM; Supersymmetry; Standard Model; Higgs; 2HDM; Charged Higgs; Compositeness; Pattern Matching; GRID; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : Two possible solutions to the Standard Model (SM) fine-tuning problem are presented in this thesis, MSSM and Compositeness. The Higgs sector of the MSSM can be tested by searching for charged Higgs bosons. Two direct searches for charged Higgs bosons decaying into a top- and bottom-quark are performed using 13.2 and 36. 2. 12. Hunting the Charged Higgs Boson with Lepton Signatures in the ATLAS Experiment

    Author : Alexander Madsen; Arnaud Ferrari; Johann Collot; Ellert Mattias; Albert de Roeck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; charged Higgs boson; ATLAS; LHC; 2HDM; MSSM; particle physics; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents searches for a charged Higgs boson (H±) in proton-proton collisions with center-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, using data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Multiple search channels are used with the common characteristic of at least one charged lepton (electron or muon) that effectively reduces the multi-jet background and is used for efficient triggering. 3. 13. Exotic Decays of Vector-Like Quarks and Development of a Test Procedure for the ITk Strip Module at the ATLAS Detector for the HL-LHC

    Author : Thomas Mathisen; Elin Bergeås Kuutmann; Venugopal Ellajosyula; Richard Brenner; Freya Blekman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Standard Model; BSM; Composite Higgs; Fine-tuning; Naturalness; Vector-Like Quarks; HL-LHC; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : The naturalness problem of the Standard Model (SM) challenges our understanding of the origin of mass. Several theories have been proposed to tackle the problem, one of them is the Composite Higgs Model (CHM) where the Higgs boson of the SM is not an elementary scalar but instead a composite object bound at a confinement scale of a TeV. 4. 14. A search for leptoquarks with the ATLAS detector and hardware tracking at the High-Luminosity LHC

    Author : Mikael Mårtensson; Richard Brenner; Anders Ryd; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Leptoquarks; Hough transform; LHC; ATLAS; HL-LHC; Particle physics; Particle tracking; Cluster finding; Trigger; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a search for pair-production of scalar leptoquarks, decaying into third-generation particles, using proton-proton collisions delivered by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and recorded by the ATLAS detector. It also presents the development of a hardware track trigger for the Phase-II upgrade of the ATLAS experiment. READ MORE

  5. 15. Searches for a Charged Higgs Boson in ATLAS and Development of Novel Technology for Future Particle Detector Systems

    Author : Daniel Pelikan; Richard Brenner; Arnaud Ferrari; Elin Bergeås Kuutmann; Fabrizio Palla; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Charged Higgs boson; Matrix Method; ATLAS; 60 GHz; future particle detector; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : The discovery of a charged Higgs boson (H±) would be a clear indication for physics beyond the Standard Model. This thesis describes searches for charged Higgs bosons with the ATLAS experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The first data collected during the LHC Run 1 is analysed, searching for a light charged Higgs boson (mH±.. READ MORE
