  1. 1. Electrochemical Studies of Redox Properties and Diffusion in Self-Assembled Systems

    Author : Johan Kostela; Mats Almgren; Maja Elmgren; Martin Malmsten; Renata Bilewicz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; electrochemistry; self-assembly; bicontinuos cubic phase; redox potential; diffusion; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis electron transfer reactions and diffusion of redox molecules in three different types of self-aggregated structures are investigated. Electrochemistry was used to investigate the redox potential and diffusion coefficients for redox active molecules with different polarity. The first aggregate system studied was the micellar phase. 2. 2. Physico-Chemical Investigations of, and Characterization of Model Membranes for, Lipid-Peptide Interactions

    Author : Per Wessman; Katarina Edwards; Martin Malmsten; Michel Lafleur; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The main focus of this thesis is on the effects caused by α-helical peptides on liposome structure, the impact of cholesterol on the peptide-membrane interactions, and the effect of aggregate curvature on the peptide affinity. Results of the studies show that the membrane destabilizing effect of the cationic α-helical peptide melittin is modulated by cholesterol. READ MORE

  3. 3. Liposomes for Drug Delivery : from Physico-chemical Studies to Applications

    Author : Nill Bergstrand; Katarina Edwards; Felix M Goni; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; liposome; steric stabilisation; BNCT; cryo-TEM; EGF; targeting; stability; permeability; pH-sensitive liposomes; triggered release; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Physico-chemical characterisation of structure and stability of liposomes intended for drug delivery is the central issue in this thesis. In addition, targeted liposomes to be used in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) were developed.Lysolipids and fatty acids are products formed upon hydrolysis of PC-lipids. READ MORE

  4. 4. Conducting Polymers Containing In-Chain Metal Centres : Electropolymerisation and Charge Transport

    Author : Johan Hjelm; Anders Hagfeldt; Emad Mukhtar; Robert Forster; A. R. Hillman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Polymer electrochemistry; Conducting Polymers; Metal Complexes; Electropolymerization; Electron-hopping; Microelectrodes; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Conjugated polymers that exhibit high electronic conductivities play key roles in the emerging field of molecular electronics. In particular, linking metal centres with useful electrochemical, photophysical, or catalytic properties to the backbone, or within the polymer chain itself, is a topic which has attracted a significant amount of interest lately. 5. 5. Monte Carlo Simulations of the Equilibrium Properties of Semi-stiff Polymer Chains : Efficient Sampling from Compact to Extended Structures

    Author : Alexey Siretskiy; Christer Elvingson; Alexander Lyubartsev; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polymers; equilibrium properties; statistical mechanics; computer simulation; Monte Carlo; Wang-Landau; compact structures; parallel computations; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Physical Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Polymers is a class of molecules which can have many different structures due to a large number of degrees of freedom. Many biopolymers, e.g. DNA, but also synthetic macromolecules have special structural features due to their backbone stiffness. READ MORE
