  1. 1. Precision mass measurements : Final limit of SMILETRAP I and the developments of SMILETRAP II

    Author : Andreas Solders; Reinhold Schuch; Juha Äystö; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SMILETRAP; Precision mass spectrometry; Penning trap; Atomic mass; Highly charged ions; Low energy ion storage; Time of flight ion cyclotron resonance; High frequency; Proton mass; QED; g-factor; Physics; Fysik; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is high-precision mass-measurements performed with Penning trap mass spectrometers (PTMS). In particular it describes the SMILETRAP I PTMS and the final results obtained with it, the masses of 40Ca and that of the proton. READ MORE

  2. 2. Challenges in Enzyme Catalysis - Photosystem II and Orotidine Decarboxylase : A Density Functional Theory Treatment

    Author : Marcus Lundberg; Margareta Blomberg; Per Siegbahn; Jeremy Harvey; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photosystem II; oxyl radical; manganese systems; orotidine decarboxylase; reaction mechanism; density functional theory; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi;

    Abstract : Possibly the most fascinating biochemical mechanism remaining to be solved is the formation of oxygen from water in photosystem II. This is a critical part of the photosynthetic reaction that makes solar energy accessible to living organisms. READ MORE

  3. 3. FPGA-based Instrumentation for Advanced Physics Experiments

    Author : Attila Hidvégi; Samuel Silverstein; Martin Grossmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Instrumentation; Data acquisition; clock distribution; trigger; FPGA; PCB; LHC; ATLAS; XFEL; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Modern physical experiments often demand advanced instrumentation based on advances in  technology. This work describes four instrumentation physics projects that are based on modern, high-capacity Field-Programmable Gate Arrays, making use of their versatility, programmability, high bandwidth communication interfaces and signal processing capabilities. 4. 4. Geometry, Topology and Emergence in Moiré Systems

    Author : Ahmed Abouelkomsan; Emil Johansson Bergholtz; Felix von Oppen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Moiré materials; Topological phases; Fractional Chern insulators; Quantum geometry; Quantum Hall effects; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : The experimental discovery of correlated insulators and superconductivity in highly tunable Van der Waals heterostructures, such as twisted bilayer graphene, has highlighted the role of moiré patterns, resulting from tiny relative twists or lattice constant mismatches, in realizing strongly correlated physics. A key ingredient is the existence of very narrow flat bands where interaction effects are dominant. READ MORE

  5. 5. Strongly Correlated Moiré Materials

    Author : Ahmed Abouelkomsan; Emil Bergholtz; Vladimir Juričić; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : Recent advances in materials science have established Moiré materials as a new highly tunable and versatile form of quantum matter. When two dimensional atomic layers are brought into proximity, a tiny relative twist or a slight lattice mismatch produces Moiré patterns manifested in a superlattice structure with a lattice constant that is much larger than the lattice constants of the constituent layers.
