1. Microstructural manipulation by laser irradiation of prepared samples : The ’Snapshot Method’
Abstract : Various metallurgical microstructures and their formation are studied in this thesis by using a laser beam to melt a variety of materials with different chemical compositions over a range of thermal cycles. The laser beam was used conventionally in a narrow gap multi-layer weld, used for welding large depths with filler wire additions, as well as a non-traditional simulated welding approach labelled here as the Snapshot method. 2. Laboratory method for the study of moisture-induced waviness in paper
Abstract : Paper that is subjected to moisture undergoes dimensional changes. It expands during moistening and shrinks during drying. When the paper is under tension between rollers, the effects are complex since shrinkage and expansion are restricted in the width direction. Waves can then appear on the paper web. READ MORE

3. Contextual activity sampling : a method to develop clinical interprofessional education
Abstract : Higher health care education in interprofessional settings is evaluated and developed continuously. The aim of clinical interprofessional education is to provide healthcare students opportunities to develop their professional roles, and understanding of other professions, as well as to develop their teamwork and communication skills. 4. Simulation of individual cells in flow
Abstract : In this thesis, simulations are performed to study the motion ofindividual cells in flow, focusing on the hydrodynamics of actively swimming cells likethe self-propelling microorganisms, and of passively advected objects like the red bloodcells. In particular, we develop numerical tools to address the locomotion ofmicroswimmers in viscoelastic fluids and complex geometries, as well as the motion ofdeformable capsules in micro-fluidic flows. 5. Stable bromine isotopic composition of methyl bromide : Method development and applications
Abstract : The isotopic composition of ozone depleting methyl halides may provide valuable information on the sources and sinks of these compounds. However, so far mostly stable carbon isotope analysis of methyl chloride and methyl bromide (CH3Br) has been attempted. READ MORE
