1. Staphylococcal induced inflammatory response in human monocytes: Analysis of factors involved
Abstract : Purified bacterial cell wall components peptidoglycan and teichoic acid were isolated from staphylococcal species S. aureus and/or S. epidermidis and tested for their ability to induce cytokine release from plastic-adherent human monocytes. READ MORE

2. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons : DNA damage and cell signaling
Abstract : Oxidative stress is a threat to our wellbeing. The formation of reactive oxygen species may result in oxidative lesions in DNA and RNA. When challenging A549 cells with 18O-labeled hydrogen peroxide, we found that RNA was between 14-25 times more sensitive to [18O]-8-oxoGuo formation than [18O]-8-oxodGuo formation in DNA. READ MORE

3. Characterisation of Time-dependent Statistical Failure of Fibre Networks : Applications for Light-weight Structural Composites
Abstract : The future of a sustainable society requires that materials not only be renewable, but also leave as small a carbon foot-printin the environment as possible. One such product is light-weight composite material for transportation packages. Cellulose fibres have been and will continue to be ideal for this purpose. READ MORE

4. Combination of optical methods for studies in combustion and wave propagation
Abstract : In this thesis, different optical methods were combined for studies of combustion processes in gases and transient wave propagation in plates and water. Pulsed TV holography was used in all these projects. READ MORE

5. Combustion and bending waves studied by pulsed TV holography
Abstract : Pulsed TV holography is an all-electronic, whole-field, non-contacting optical method for pulsed holographic interferometry. It is suited to record transient events in e.g. mechanics, acoustics and fluid mechanics. READ MORE
