1. Apoptosis in the myelodysplastic syndromes : protective effect of G-CSF
Abstract : Increased apoptosis of hematopoietic progenitor cells is a hallmark for the myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and one of the main reasons for the ineffective hematopoiesis and subsequent cytopenia characteristic for the disease. In particular in low risk MDS, such as refractory anemia (RA) and refractory anemia with ringed sideroblasts (RARS), severe transfusion-dependent anemia leading to constant fatigue and weakness and therefore reduced quality of life often constitutes the main clinical problem. 2. EVOX-CPS : A Methodology For Data-Driven Optimization Of Building Operation
Abstract : Existing building stock’s energy efficiency must improve due to its significant proportion of the global energy consumption mix. Predictive building control promises to increase the efficiency of buildings during their operational phase and thus lead to a reduction of the lion’s share of buildings’ lifetime energy consumption. 3. Glacial Isostatic Adjustment : Inferences on properties and processes in the upper mantle from 3D dynamical modeling
Abstract : Observations of glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) offers a powerful window into the properties of the Earth's interior. Combined with dynamical modeling of the GIA process we can use the observations to infer properties such as the elastic structure of the lithosphere, the rheology of the mantle and changes in the stress conditions in the Earth. 4. Toward Predictive Maintenance in a Cloud Manufacturing Environment : A population-wide approach
Abstract : The research presented in this thesis is focused on improving industrial maintenance by using better decision support that is based on a wider range of input information. The core objective is to research how to integrate information from a population of similar monitored objects. READ MORE

5. Active Matter in a Critical State: From passive building blocks to active molecules, engines, and active droplets
Abstract : The motion of microscopic objects is strongly affected by their surrounding environment. In quiescent liquids, motion is reduced to random fluctuations known as Brownian motion. Nevertheless, microorganisms have been able to develop mechanisms to generate active motion. READ MORE
