1. Nanofabrication of Single Electron Transistors and Evaluation of Miniature Biosensors
Abstract : This thesis deals with miniaturization in two different fields: electronics and biosensing. The first part deals with fabrication and measurements of two nanoscale structures - a self-assembled single electron transistor and a (potential) single junction device. READ MORE

2. Relation Between Drug Exposure and Selection of Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria
Abstract : The worldwide increase in antibiotic resistance is a concern for public health. When the appropriate antibiotic dosage is determined, the priorities are efficacy and toxicity. The aim of this thesis was to gain knowledge about the most efficient dosing regimens in order to minimize the emergence and selection of antibiotic-resistant mutants. READ MORE

3. Laser-Induced Incandescence and Complementary Diagnostics for Flame Soot Characterization
Abstract : This work has been aimed at developing and applying laser-induced incandescence (LII) for flame soot characterization. The basic principle of LII is rapid heating of the soot particles to temperatures of 3500-4000 K by short laser pulses. Thereby the intensity of the soot incandescence is increased. READ MORE

4. Diet and postprandial risk markers for complications in type 2 diabetes
Abstract : The period after a meal is complex with fluctuation in blood glucose, lipids and other metabolic responses. This may induce and/or increase inflammation and contribute to future development of diabetic complications. Prevention of complications include well-controlled disease management, including diet. 5. Bacterial identification by the 16S rRNA gene
Abstract : The identification and classification of bacteria was initially performed with morphological methods applied on cultivated bacteria. It was not until the mid 1970s, when sequences of ribosomal RNA were discovered to be useful for bacterial evolution, that a new era started. This method showed to be far more accurate for bacterial identification. READ MORE
