    Abstract : Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common high-grade brain tumor diagnosed in patients who are more than 50 years of age. The standard of care treatment is surgery, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The median life expectancy of patients is only between 12 to 15 months after receiving current treatment regimes. 2. 2. A Novel Approach for Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery Treatment Planning Accounting for High-Grade Glioma Invasiveness into Normal Tissue

    Author : Wille Häger; Iuliana Toma-Daşu; Marta Lazzeroni; Jesper Kallehauge; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tumor modeling; medical physics; model; simulation; glioblastoma; gbm; medicinsk strålningsfysik; Medical Radiation Physics;

    Abstract : High-grade gliomas (HGGs) are a type of malignant brain cancer, which include glioblastomas (GBMs). In adults, GBM is the most common malignant primary brain cancer. Attempts to treat patients with GBMs have been conducted for over a century, but the prognosis has only marginally improved. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular serum portraits - A step towards personalized medicine

    Author : Anders Carlsson; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; GBM; SLE; breast cancer; Antibody microarrays; personalized medicine; serum biomarkers;

    Abstract : Antibody microarray technology has the potential for playing a large roll in identifying serological biomarker panels for personalized medicine. The aim of this thesis, based on four original papers, was to investigate if information in the serum proteome could be extracted and used for diagnostic, classificational, prognostic or treatment predictive purposes in a range of diseases. 4. 4. Development of adenoviral vectors for monitoring telomerase activity in living cells

    Author : Anna Edqvist; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytogenetics; Genetics; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; GBM; HSC; adenovirus; hTERT; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Abstract : ABSTRACT Telomerase activity is a potential molecular marker for cancer and primitive cells in regenerative tissues. The most commonly used method to measure telomerase activity in cells is the telomerase reverse amplification protocol (TRAP) assay, where the protein extracts derived from homogenized cells are analysed. 5. 5. Modeling glioblastoma heterogeneity to decipher its biology

    Author : Yuan Xie; Lene Uhrbom; Massimo Squatrito; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma multiforme; biobank; GBM cells; cell of origin; LGR5; OPCs;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and lethal form of primary brain tumor that mainly affects adults. GBM displays remarkable intra- and inter-tumoral heterogeneity and contains a subpopulation of cells named glioma stem cells that is believed to be responsible for tumor maintenance, progression and recurrence.
