  1. 1. Multi-platform metabolomics assays to study the responsiveness of the human plasma and lung lavage metabolome

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå University

    Author : Masoumeh Karimpour; Malin Nording L.; Magnus Åberg; [2016]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LC MS; GC MS; NMR; metabolomics; metabolite; exposure; postprandial; plasma; lung lavage; BW; BW; data analysis; univariate analysis; multivariate analysis;

    Abstract : Metabolomics as a field has been used to track changes and perturbations in the human body by investigating metabolite profiles indicating the change of metabolite levels over time and in response to different challenges. In this thesis work, the main focus was on applying multiplatform-metabolomics to study the human metabolome following exposure to perturbations, such as diet (in the form of a challenge meal) and exhaust emissions (air pollution exposure in a controlled setting). 2. 2. Developing tools for non-target analysis and digital archiving of organic urban water pollutants

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Cathrin Veenaas; Peter Haglund; Per Liljelind; Christine Gallampois; Mehran Alaee; [2018]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Digital archiving; non-target screening; organic pollutants; sewage sludge; GC-MS; GC×GC; LC-MS; time-trend analysis; retention indices; retention time prediction;

    Abstract : This thesis describes efforts to develop robust methods for the creation and use of digital archives of environmental samples, and proposes guidelines based on the results. Digital archives are repositories that store environmental samples digitally. READ MORE

  3. 3. Large Volume Injection and Hyphenated Techniques for Gas Chromatographic Determination of PBDEs and Carbazoles in Air

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Institutionen för analytisk kemi

    Author : Petter Tollbäck; Conny Östman; Tuulia Hyötyläinen; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; large volume injection; hyphenated techniques; LC-GC; GC-MS; mass spectrometry; GC; gas chromatography; carbazoles; PBDE; polybrominated diphenyl ethers; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Analytical chemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on studies in which the suitability of various gas chromatography (GC) injection techniques was examined for the determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and carbazoles, two groups of compounds that are thermally labile and/or have high boiling-points. For such substances, it is essential to introduce the samples into the GC system in an appropriate way to avoid degradation and other potential problems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Targeted and untargeted analysis of organic contaminants from on-site sewage treatment facilities Removal, fate and environmental impact

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Kristin Blum; Peter Haglund; Patrik Andersson; Pim Leonards; [2018]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; decentralized sewage treatment; wastewater; surface water; environmental fate; bioavailability; removal efficiency; mass fluxes; biochar; environment; GC×GC-MS; LC-IM-MS; mass spectrometry; contaminants; pollutants; prioritization; non-target analysis; screening; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : On-site sewage treatment facilities (OSSFs) are widely used all over the world to treat wastewater when large-scale sewage treatment plants (STPs) are not economically feasible. Although there is great awareness that the release of untreated wastewater into the environment can lead to water-related diseases and eutrophication, little is known about organic contaminants and their removal by OSSFs, environmental load and fate. 5. 5. Diagnosis of acute and chronic enteric fever using metabolomics

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Elin Näsström; Henrik Antti; Anders Johansson; Peter Spégel; [2017]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Enteric fever; Salmonella; chronic carriers; metabolomics; diagnosis; biomarkers; multivariate data analysis; GCxGC-MS; GC-MS; LC-MS;

    Abstract : Enteric (or typhoid) fever is a systemic infection mainly caused by Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Paratyphi A. The disease is common in areas with poor water quality and insufficient sanitation. Humans are the only reservoir for transmission of the disease. READ MORE
