21. Black mustard and the butterfly effect : metabolomics of plant-insect interactions under multiple stress conditions
Abstract : One main goal of ecological research is to understand nature´s complexity, in order to predict the potential impact of environmental perturbations. In this thesis, I investigate the ecological interactions between some of the most ancient organisms living on our planet: plants and insects. READ MORE

22. Metabolism of some polychlorinated biphenyl and polybrominated diphenyl ether congeners in the rat
Abstract : For the understanding of the metabolic fate of xenobiotics, in vivo studies are needed. In this thesis the metabolism of CB-28 and CB-77 and BDE-209 in the rat are determined. In addition, pharmacokinetic studies of CB-28 and BDE- 209 are included. The compounds were radiolabelled and their excretion and tissue distribution determined. READ MORE

23. Determination of OPAHs and PAHs in Particulate Matter from Ambient Air and Engine Emissions : Multidimensional Chromatography
Abstract : Particulate matter (PM) is an air pollutant that seriously impacts human health. Epidemiological studies have shown associations between human exposure to urban air PM and lung cancer, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. READ MORE

24. Multivariate data analysis of metabolomic multi-tissue samples
Abstract : Multi-tissue metabolomics involves characterisation of the metabolome of several tissue types. The metabolome consists of small chemical entities of low molecular weight called metabolites, which are constantly produced and interchanged through a vast variety of biochemical reactions occurring throughout living organisms. 25. New Materials and Improved Ambient Techniques in Mass Spectrometry
Abstract : Mass spectrometry (MS) is used in several fields, e.g. biology, environmental monitoring, medicine and forensics due to excellent qualitative and quantitative capabilities. The development of new instrumental setups and ionization sources is crucial to analyze a variety of compounds at trace levels. READ MORE
