  1. 11. Multi-platform metabolomics assays to study the responsiveness of the human plasma and lung lavage metabolome

    Author : Masoumeh Karimpour; Malin Nording L.; Magnus Åberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LC MS; GC MS; NMR; metabolomics; metabolite; exposure; postprandial; plasma; lung lavage; BW; BW; data analysis; univariate analysis; multivariate analysis;

    Abstract : Metabolomics as a field has been used to track changes and perturbations in the human body by investigating metabolite profiles indicating the change of metabolite levels over time and in response to different challenges. In this thesis work, the main focus was on applying multiplatform-metabolomics to study the human metabolome following exposure to perturbations, such as diet (in the form of a challenge meal) and exhaust emissions (air pollution exposure in a controlled setting). 2. 12. On the reliability of methods for the speciation of mercury based on chromatographic separation coupled to atomic spectrometric detection

    Author : Johanna Qvarnström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Mercury; speciation; hyphenated techniques; HPLC; CE; GC; CV-AAS; ICP-MS; species-specific enriched stable isotope; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the reliability of methods for the speciation of mercury in environmental and biological samples. Problems with speciation methods that couple chromatography to atomic spectrometric detection and how to overcome the problems are discussed. READ MORE

  3. 13. Multivariate processing and modelling of hyphenated metabolite data

    Author : Pär Jonsson; Michael Sjöström; Royston Goodacre; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemometrics; Curve Resolution; GC MS; LC MS; Metabolomics; Metabonomics; Multivariate Analysis and Multivariate Curve Resolution.; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : One trend in the ‘omics’ sciences is the generation of increasing amounts of data, describing complex biological samples. To cope with this and facilitate progress towards reliable diagnostic tools, it is crucial to develop methods for extracting representative and predictive information. READ MORE

  4. 14. Aroma and Flavor in Liquid Beet Sugar Processing

    Author : Per Pihlsgård; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; liquid beet sugar; aroma release; liquid beet sugar process; electronic nose; aroma; sensory analysis; macromolecules; flavor; GC-MS; GC-olfactometry;

    Abstract : Production of liquid beet sugar, a product of increasing importance for the food industry, involves many different compounds exhibiting aroma. Aroma compounds are introduced with the raw material, the sugar beets, but also formed as a result of sugar degradation (caramelization and Maillard reaction) or by contamination from process steps, such as adsorbents and ion exchangers. 5. 15. New methods for determination of airborne pollutants : Focus on tetrabromobisphenol A, organophosphate triesters and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

    Author : Johanna Tollbäck; Ulrika Nilsson; Peter Haglund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Air sampling; sampling methods; indoor air; SPE; SPME; extraction; dynamic extraction; online coupling; SWE; subcritical water extraction; GC MS; LC MS; organophosphate triesters; PAH; tetrabromobisphenol A; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development and evaluation of new methods of sampling and analysis of organic pollutants in the indoor and outdoor environment. In Paper I, the development of a new method was reported for the determination of the brominated flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in air using sampling with glass fiber filter and polyurethane foam (PUF), ultrasonic solvent extraction and liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS).
