  1. 16. Liquid Membrane Techniques for Trace Metal Analysis and Speciation in Environmental and Biological Matrices

    Author : Kuria Ndung'u; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Pb and Organotin species; MMLLE; SLM; GC MS; PSA; GFAS; FAAS; ICP-MS; Speciation; DEHPA; Aliquat-336; trace metals; Cr III ; Cr VI ; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, liquid-membrane-based methods for the analysis of trace metal species in samples of environmental and biological origin were developed. By incorporating extracting reagents in the membrane liquid, trace metal ions were selectively separated from humic-rich natural waters and urine samples, prior to their determination using various instrumental techniques. 2. 17. Targeted and untargeted analysis of organic contaminants from on-site sewage treatment facilities : Removal, fate and environmental impact

    Author : Kristin Blum; Peter Haglund; Patrik Andersson; Pim Leonards; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; decentralized sewage treatment; wastewater; surface water; environmental fate; bioavailability; removal efficiency; mass fluxes; biochar; environment; GC×GC-MS; LC-IM-MS; mass spectrometry; contaminants; pollutants; prioritization; non-target analysis; screening; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : On-site sewage treatment facilities (OSSFs) are widely used all over the world to treat wastewater when large-scale sewage treatment plants (STPs) are not economically feasible. Although there is great awareness that the release of untreated wastewater into the environment can lead to water-related diseases and eutrophication, little is known about organic contaminants and their removal by OSSFs, environmental load and fate. 3. 18. Glucotoxicity in Insulin-Producing β-Cells

    Author : Hanna K Nyblom; Peter Bergsten; Michael Welsh; Miriam Cnop; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; type 2 diabetes; SELDI-TOF MS; glucotoxicity; proteomics; insulin secretion; mitochondria; lipids; INS-1E cells; GC-MS; HR-MAS NMR; metabolomics; human islet; AMPK; AICAR; ER stress; apoptosis; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Background and aims: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is connected with elevated glucose levels, which cause impaired glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) and degeneration of β-cells. Mechanisms for such glucotoxic effects were explored in the present study.Materials and methods: INS-1E cells were cultured for 5 days in 5. READ MORE

  4. 19. Methods for Determination of Benzo(a)pyrene and High Molecular Weight (>300 Da) Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Particulate Matter from Ambient Air and Vehicle Exhausts

    Author : Christoffer Bergvall; Roger Westerholm; Stephen Wise; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PAH; dibenzopyrene; benzo a pyrene; standard reference material; air particulate matter; diesel particulate matter; toxic equivalence factor; ultrasonic assisted extraction; accelerated solvent extraction; automation; online coupling; GC MC; LC GC MS; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Air pollution with particulate matter (PM) raises considerable concern because of its adverse effects on human health. For this reason, and because the mechanisms of PM toxicity are not fully known, there is an urgent need to determine the chemical constituents of atmospheric PM, especially PM emanating from traffic - a major source of urban PM. 5. 20. Combustion Chemistry Investigation of Liquid and Solid Fuels

    Author : Åsa Håkansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gasoline; flame; GC MS; heptane; combustion; pyrolysis; kinetics; emissions; wood; RME;

    Abstract : The aim of this work was to study the combustion of liquid and solid fuels with the emphasis on intermediates and products. Depending on the structure and the complexity of the fuel different reactors and methods were used. Small-scale laboratory reactors were built and chemical analysis and evaluation methods were developed. Heptane. READ MORE
