  1. 11. Computer Simulations of Polymer Gels : Structure, Dynamics, and Deformation

    Author : Natasha Kamerlin; Christer Elvingson; Jan Forsman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computer simulations; Brownian dynamics; polymer gel; microgel; spherical boundary conditions; hypersphere; core-shell; deswelling; mechanical properties; uniaxial elongation;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the results of computer simulation studies of the structure, dynamics, and deformation of cross-linked polymer gels. Obtaining a fundamental understanding of the interrelation between the detailed structure and the properties of polymer gels is a challenge and a key issue towards designing materials for specific purposes. 2. 12. Synthesis and Characterization of Functional Polymers Based on Trimethylolpropane Trimethacrylate and Glycidyl Methacrylate

    Author : Maria Walenius; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : ethylhydroxyethyl cellulose derivative; trimethylolpropane; gels; compression; separation; pore surface; trimethacrylate; Copolymers;

    Abstract : Copolymers of trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) were prepared with various monomer-to-solvent ratios, GMA to TRIM ratios and with various types of porogens. These parameters affected the inner morphology of the polymers and various pore surface areas (100-500 m2/g) and pore size distributions were obtained. READ MORE

  3. 13. Unwarping and Analysing Electrophoresis Gels

    Author : John Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; Classification; Curved field lines; Gel matching; Image alignment; Image warping; Proteomics; Pulse-field gel electrophoresis; Two-dimensional electrophoresis; Variation; Yeast;

    Abstract : Gel electrophoresis is a technology in molecular biology that is used to separate and quantify biomolecules, for example DNA and proteins. Ideally the position in a gel image corresponds to one or several properties of the molecules, such as size and net charge, but in practise the separation pattern is often warped, that is, geometrically distorted. 4. 14. On the processing and properties of cellulose-containing polymeric materials

    Author : Ruth Arino Marine; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : rheological properties; compounding; dispersion; ionic liquids; ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer; cellulose fibres; gels;

    Abstract : ABSTRACTCellulose fibres have properties that make them very attractive as a reinforcement for thermoplastic polymers. Renewability, biodegradability, very good availability and low cost are some general advantages. READ MORE

  5. 15. On the processing and properties of cellulose-containing polymeric materials

    Author : Ruth Arino Marine; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : dispersion; extrusion; injection moulding; ionic liquids; compounding; ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer; gels; cellulose fibres; rheological properties;

    Abstract : Cellulose fibres have properties such as renewability, biodegradability, very good availability and low cost that make them very attractive as a reinforcement for thermoplastic polymers. Other more specific favourable properties are low density, high specific stiffness, low abrasive nature and their potential for modification. READ MORE
