  1. 1. Mechanistic Modeling of Wall-Fluid Thermal Interactions for Innovative Nuclear Systems

    Author : Roman Thiele; Henryk Anglart; Xu Cheng; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; GEN-IV reactors; Wall heat transfer; Computational Fluid Dynamics; Wall functions; Reactor design; Supercritical water; Liquid metal; Energy Technology; Energiteknik; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Next generation nuclear power plants (GEN-IV) will be capable of not only producing energy in a reliable, safe and sustainable way, but they will also be capable of reducing the amount of nuclear waste, which has been accumulated over the lifetime of current-generation nuclear power plants, through transmutation. Due to the use of new and different coolants, existing computational tools need to be tested, further developed and improved in order to thermal-hydraulically design these power plants. READ MORE

  2. 2. Prediction of forced convection heat transfer to Lead-Bismuth-Eutectic

    Author : Roman Thiele; Henryk Anglart; Martin Rohde; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lead-bismuth-eutectic; Forced convective heat transfer; Turbulence-modeling; GEN-IV reactors;

    Abstract : The goal of this work is to investigate the capabilities of two different commercial codes, OpenFOAM and ANSYS CFX, to predict forced convection heat transfer in low Prandtl number fluids and investigate the sensitivity of these predictions to the type of code and to several input parameters.The goal of the work is accomplished by predicting forced convection heat transfer in two different experimental setups with the codes OpenFOAM and ANSYS CFX using three different turbulence models and varying the input parameters in an extensive sensitivity analysis. 3. 3. Open porosity fission gas release model applied to nuclear fuels

    Author : Antoine Claisse; Pär Olsson; Arndt Schubert; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Nitride fuels have gained a new interest in the last few years as both a candidate for GEN IV reactors and as accident tolerant fuels for current light water reactors. They however are decades behind oxide fuels when it comes to qualication and development of tools to assess their performances. In this thesis, such a tool is developed. READ MORE
