  1. 1. Male Subfertility and Prostate Cancer Risk: Epidemiological and Genetic Studies

    Author : Yasir Ruhayel; Malmö Molekylärgenetisk reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytoplasmic and nuclear; Receptors; Prostatic neoplasms; genetic; Polymorphism; male; Infertility; Hypogonadism; Genetic association studies; Case–control studies; Androgens;

    Abstract : Androgen action plays a pivotal role in male reproductive tract physiology and pathology. The androgen receptor (AR) gene harbors two codon repeat tracts: the CAG and GGN repeats, encoding corresponding amino acid sequences of variable length; the polyglutamine and polyglycine stretches, respectively. 2. 2. Folate, Hormones and Infertility : Different factors affecting IVF pregnancy outcome

    Author : Tiina Murto; Anneli Stavreus-Evers; Agneta Skoog Svanberg; Sven-Eric Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Folate; folic acid supplement; homocysteine; hormones; infertility; IVF; lifestyle factor; MTHFR; predictive value; socioeconomic factor; women; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Abstract : Various hormones have been studied as regards prediction of pregnancy outcome after infertility treatment, but no ideal candidate has been found. Folate and genetic variations in folate metabolism have also been associated with infertility, but it remains unclear how these factors affect IVF pregnancy outcome. READ MORE

  3. 3. The impact of gonadotropin receptor polymorphisms on human reproductive function

    Author : Ida Lindgren; Malmö Molekylärgenetisk reproduktionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : FSHR; LHCGR; single-nucleotide polymorphism SNP ; in vitro fertilization IVF ; reproduction; Infertility; male fertility; female fertility;

    Abstract : To date, approximately 15% of all couples worldwide suffer from infertility. The management include controlledovarian hyper-stimulation of the women with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and semen analysis of the men,prior to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and transfer of the fertilized embryo to the uterine cavity. 5. 5. Detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Mycoplasma genitalium by genetic and serological methods

    Author : Margaretha Jurstrand; Hans Fredlund; Erik Kihlström; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : Chlamydia trachomatis; genotyping; contact tracing; sexually transmitted diseases; Mycoplasma genitalium; PCR; serology; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Chlamydia trachomatis infections are associated with a spectrum of clinical diseases including urethritis, prostatitis and epididymitis among men and cervicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), with an increased risk of infertility and ectopic pregnancy (EP), among women. In the search for other pathogens causing urethritis, Mycoplasma genitalium was isolated from urethral specimens from two men with acute urethritis (1980). READ MORE
