  1. 1. Ontology as Conceptual Schema when Modelling Historical Maps for Database Storage

    Author : Gustaf Svedjemo; Erland Jungert; Wollter Arnberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; ontology; historical maps; database modelling; GIS; Geographical Information Systems; archaeology; history; ontologi; historiska kartor; databasmodellering; GIS; geografiska informationssystem; arkeologi; historia; Computer science; Datavetenskap; History subjects; Historieämnen;

    Abstract : Sweden has an enormous treasure in its vast number of large-scale historical maps from a period of 400 years made for different purposes, that we call map series. The maps are also very time and regional dependent with respect to their concepts. A large scanning project by Lantmäteriverket will make most of these maps available as raster images. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of a Detailed Geomorphological Mapping System and GIS Geodatabase in Sweden

    Author : Marcus Gustavsson; Else Kolstrup; Harry Seijmonsbergen; Ian S. Evans; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physical geography and sedimentology; Geomorphology; Geomorphological map; GIS; Sweden; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a method for detailed landscape presentation. The method incorporates both fieldwork-based comprehensive geomorphological description and digital data handling and thus contributes in filling the gap between traditional geomorphological mapping and modern geomorphological studies performed in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). 3. 3. Towards Environmental Informatics for Building Stocks. A Conceptual Model for an Environmental Building Stock Information System for Sustainable Development - EBSIS

    Author : Liane Thuvander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building stock; information system; environmental system analysis; energy flows; building stock information system; material flows; environmental informatics; urban system analysis; environment; sustainable sevelopment;

    Abstract : The Swedish building sector uses a considerable amount of all materials and all energy used in Sweden. Knowledge about the existing building stock, its impact on the environment related to the use of material and energy, however, is limited and target settings for environmental objectives and decision making are based on vague information. 4. 4. Applicability of Remote Sensing Techniques to Groundwater Exploration in Semi-Arid Hard Rock Terrain - A Systematic Approach

    Author : Nils Kellgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; groundwater exploration; hard rock; semi-arid; decision support; lineaments; GIS; remote sensing; borehole siting;

    Abstract : Groundwater exploration in hard rock terrain involves complex decisions, attributable to a lack of reliable data and the heterogeneous nature of the geological environment. Targets for drilling of boreholes are commonly selected on the basis of knowledge, or perceptions, of groundwater occurrence in a specific area. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hydrogeochemistry of arsenic, fluoride, and other trace elements in groundwater in northern Tanzania : Occurrence, distribution, and impacts on drinking water quality

    Author : Fanuel Josephat Ligate; Prosun Bhattacharya; Felix W Mtalo; Jyoti Prakash Maity; Joyanto Routh; KTH; []
    Keywords : Arsenic; Fluoride; Groundwater; Lake Victoria basin; Risk assessment; Sanya alluvial plain; Tanzania.; Aseniki; Bonde la Ziwa Victoria; Floridi; Maji yaliyopo ardhini; Tanzania; Tathmini ya hatari; Uwanda wa Aluvia ya Sanya.; Arsenik; Fluorid; Grundvatten; Viktoriasjön; Riskbedömning; Sanya alluvial slätt; Tanzania.; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : The occurrence of arsenic (As), fluoride (F-), and other trace elements (TEs) with potential toxicity in groundwater is a global environmental concern. According to the National water resource mapping database, about 76 % of the drinking water supply in Tanzania is abstracted from groundwater sources. READ MORE
