  1. 1. Genetic Determinants of Dyslipidemia

    Author : Tibor V Varga; Genetisk och molekylär epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetic epidemiology; Genetic polymorphism; dyslipidaemia; Cholesterol; Triglyceride; Genetic risk; genetic risk score; Single nucleotide polymorphism; Prediction; Gene-environment interactions; Randomized controlled trial; prospective cohort studies; Observational study; GLACIER Study; Diabetes Prevention Program;

    Abstract : Dyslipidemia is a chronic deviation from normal blood lipid levels that can lead to atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases; dyslipidemia and its sequelae are caused by the complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors. Although circulating concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) have a strong genetic underpinning, not much is known about the genetic factors that affect long-term deteriorations in lipid concentrations. 2. 2. Response of glaciers to climate change : Mass balance sensitivity, sea level rise and runoff

    Author : Mattias de Woul; Regine Hock; Peter Jansson; Margareta Hansson; Roger J. Braithwaite; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glacier; mass balance modelling; mass balance sensitivity; sea level rise; glacial runoff; Hofsjökull; Storglaciären; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study is to enhance our understanding of the response of glaciers to climate change. Global sea level is affected by changes in glacier ice volume, and melt-water from glaciers is a principal water source in many regions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies in Glacier Mass Balance : Measurement and its errors

    Author : Andrew Mercer; Peter Jansson; Gunhild Rosqvist; Ian Brown; Jonathan Carrivick; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Glaciology; Mass Balance; Measurement Errors; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The study of the surface mass balance of valley glaciers has a long history but one that is dogged by uncertainty and errors, and uncertainty about those errors. These problems are acknowledged by the glaciological community and have been examined and formalised in several publications. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dynamics of the cold surface layer of polythermal Storglaciären, Sweden

    Author : Rickard Pettersson; Per Holmlund; Peter Janssson; Jens-Ove Näslund; Regine Hock; Helgi Björnsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polythermal glacier; cold surface layer; ground-penetrating radar; spatial variability; water content; Storglaciären; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : Polythermal glaciers, i.e. glaciers with a combination of ice at and below the freezing point, are widespread in arctic and subarctic environments. The polythermal structure has major implications for glacier hydrology, ice flow and glacial erosion. READ MORE

  5. 5. Who is Marching for Pachamama? : An Intersectional Analysis of Environmental Struggles in Bolivia under the Government of Evo Morales

    Author : Anna Kaijser; Anne Jerneck; Annica Kronsell; Andrew Canessa; LUCSUS; []

    Abstract : Evo Morales and the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) took office in Bolivia in 2006, riding on the wave of fierce popular protests against previous, neoliberal regimes. Morales was depicted as the country’s first indigenous president. READ MORE
