  1. 1. Aspiring to a higher rank: Swedish factor prices and productivity in international perspective, 1860-1950

    Author : Svante Prado; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; convergence; comparative productivity; TFP; factor prices; real wages; employment; land prices; industrialisation; GPT; GDP; economic growth; Swedish historical national accounts; manufacturing; labour productivity;

    Abstract : This dissertation consists of four chapters which expand on the Swedish economic development in an international perspective between 1860 and 1950. The overarching theme is how the Swedish rise, from backwardness to prosperity, is best understood. READ MORE

  2. 2. Organic micropollutants in highway stormwater and the role of a gross pollutant trap-biofilter stormwater treatment train

    Author : Ali Beryani; Godecke-Tobias Blecken; Maria Viklander; Katharina Tondera; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ;

    Abstract : The studies which this thesis is based on assessed the stormwater quality in a highway catchment located in Sundsvall, Sweden, and examined the performance of a gross pollutant trap (GPT)-biofilter stormwater treatment train (TT) downstream of the catchment, in terms of removal efficiency, intra-event variability, and environmental risk reduction of organic micropollutants (OMPs) for the receiving water body. Assessing the occurrence and event mean concentrations (EMCs) of all OMPs in the catchment revealed that bisphenol A (BPA), octylphenol (OP), nonylphenol (NP), five carcinogenic and four non-carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and C16-C40 fractions of petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs) all potentially pose an environmental risk to freshwater (EMCs >PNEC: predicted non-effect concentration), while alkylphenolethoxylates, six low- molecular weight PAHs, and lighter fractions of PHCs (C10-C16) do not occur at problematic levels. 3. 3. General purpose technology diffusion and labour market dynamics : A spatio-temporal perspective

    Author : Mikhail Martynovich; Institutionen för kulturgeografi och ekonomisk geografi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; general purpose technology; technological change; information technology; IT; diffusion; labour market dynamics; labour mobility; worker reallocation; Sweden;

    Abstract : This dissertation aims at advancing the knowledge about the role of the labour market in the process of the technology-induced economic transformation, taking into account the variety of factors involved at micro-, meso-, and macro-levels of the economy and at different geographical scales. Empirically, the dissertation investigates the co-evolutionary dynamics of industrial restructuring and worker reallocation across and within regional labour markets induced by the diffusion of the information technology as a general purpose technology (GPT) in Sweden in the period between 1985 and 2010. 4. 4. Evaluating Cathode Catalysts in the Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell

    Author : Henrik Ekström; Göran Lindbergh; Anders Lundblad; Anthony Kucernak; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fuel cell; humidity; model electrodes; Nafion; oxygen reduction; PEMFC; platinum; polymer electrolyte; thin film evaporation; titanium oxide; bränslecell; fuktighet; modellelektroder; Nafion; PEMFC; platina; polymerelektrolyt; syrereduktion; tunnfilmsförångning; titanoxid; Electrochemistry; Elektrokemi;

    Abstract : The polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) converts the chemical energy of hydrogen and oxygen (air) into usable electrical energy. At the cathode (the positive electrode), a considerable amount of platinum is generally required to catalyse the sluggish oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). READ MORE

  5. 5. Structural and Functional Studies of Membrane Proteins For Future Development of Antimicrobial Drugs

    Author : Elin Dunevall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sialic acid transporters; SiaT; MraY; Tunicamycin; Antibiotic resistance;

    Abstract : Antibiotic resistance is a world-wide occurring problem which threatens human health. Without development of any new and effective antibiotics, the rapid growth of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections could put society in a situation resembling the pre-antibiotic era when a simple lung infection could kill a human being.
