  1. 1. WC grain growth during sintering of cemented carbides : Experiments and simulations

    Author : Karin Mannesson; John Ågren; Annika Borgenstam; Håkan Engqvist; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cemented carbide; Grain growth; Abnormal grain growth; Image analysis; Modeling; 3-D grain size distribution; Inverse Saltykov; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Cemented carbides are composite materials consisting of a hard carbide and a ductile binder. They are powdermetallurgically manufactured, where liquid-phase sintering is one of the main steps. The most common cemented carbide consists of WC and Co and it is widely used for cutting tools. 2. 2. Studies on Growth of SiC and BN : from Theory and Experiments

    Author : Jenny Olander; Karin Larsson; Jan-Otto Carlsson; Alison Mainwood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; Growth; quantum chemistry; DFT; ALD; laser-activation; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Smaller cellular telephones and more energy-efficient windows are just two examples of technological advances which call for new materials. Materials chemists seek to develop new materials, both out of pure curiosity to see which combination of elements and structures can be obtained and in efforts to produce materials, with specific properties. 3. 3. Murine B lymphocyte growth regulation : a study of host defence factors and their mimicry by Mycoplasma arginini

    Author : Erik Ruuth; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; B lymphocyte; growth; lymphokine; lymphokine-like; host-parasite; M. arginini; membrane acyl protein;

    Abstract : Immune responses are the result of extended clonal growth and maturation of specific precursors preexisting in low frequencies. Clonal expansion is partly controlled by soluble factors, thus, their identification is essential for the understanding of the immune response regulation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Electronic materials : growth and characterisation

    Author : Michael A. Grishin; Ulf O. Karlsson; Massimo Sancrotti; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrophysics; Photoemission; Ultra-short laser pulse; Thin film; Laser deposition; InSb; InAs; GaSb; Ferroelectrics; Elektrofysik; Electrophysics; Elektrofysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis the InSb(111), InAs(111) and GaSb(001) surfaces have been studied by means of time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy based upon the femtosecond laser system. The pump-and-probe technique allows to analyse both electron states in the valence band and normally unpopulated electron states above the valence band, which can be occupied by transiently excited carriers at the optically pumped surface. 5. 5. On the binding of growth-promoting polyamines to proteoglycans: Implications for growth-regulation and polycation-mediated gene transfer

    Author : Mattias Belting; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; cationic lipid.; gene transfer; gene therapy; cell growth; polyamine transport; spermine; polyamine; growth-inhibition; heparan sulphate; dermatan sulphate; Proteoglycan; glycosaminoglycan; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Abstract : Initial investigations were directed at studying the interaction between polyamines and various glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). The polyamine spermine displayed binding to dermatan sulphate (DS) and heparan sulphate (HS) with similar (Kd, 3.9 x 10-4 M) and higher (Kd, 0.37 x 10-6 M) affinity, respectively, than to DNA.
