  2. 2. Stellar Ages for Galactic Archaeology : Methods and Applications

    Author : Christian Sahlholdt; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galaxy : formation; Stellar ages; Milky Way Galaxy; Low mass stars; Galaxy : disc; Galaxy : evolution; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Sahlholdt;

    Abstract : Galactic Archaeology is the study of the formation and evolution of the Milky Way through the properties of stars and stellar populations. The combination of stellar ages, chemical compositions, positions, and velocities can reveal the history of star formation and chemical enrichment in different regions of the Galaxy. READ MORE

  3. 3. Exploring the nature of ISM turbulencein disc galaxies

    Author : Timmy Ejdetjärn; Göran Östlin; Oscar Agertz; Garrelt Mellema; Troels Haugbølle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; galaxies; galaxy; disc galaxy; star formation; ISM; interstellar medium; kinematics; dynamics; evolution; turbulence; numerical; Astronomy; astronomi; teoretisk astrofysik; Theoretical Astrophysics;

    Abstract : Galaxy formation is a continuous process that started only a few hundred million yearsafter the Big Bang. The first galaxies were very volatile, with bursts of star formationand disorganised gas motions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Star-forming Dwarf Galaxies : Internal motions and evolution

    Author : Thomas Marquart; Nils Bergvall; Janice Lee; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galaxy; Galaxies; Dynamics; Kinematics; Starburst; Dwarf Galaxies; Blue Compact Galaxies; Star Formation; Galaxy mergers; 3D-Spectroscopy; Spectroscopy; Astronomy; Astronomi;

    Abstract : The study of dwarf galaxies is important in order to better understand the physics of the young universe and how larger galaxies form and evolve. In this work we focus on Blue Compact Galaxies (BCGs) which havemuch enhanced star formation (starbursts), causing blue colours and strong emission line spectra. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular gas in the galaxy M83 : Its distribution, kinematics, and relation to star formation

    Author : Andreas Andersson Lundgren; Hans Olofsson; John Whiteoak; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular gas; Galaxies; Galaxies individual: M83; Star formation; Galactic dynamics; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik;

    Abstract : The barred spiral galaxy M83 (NGC5236) has been observed in the 12CO J=1–0 and J=2–1 millimetre lines with the Swedish-ESO Submillimetre Telescope (SEST). The sizes of the CO maps are 100×100, and they cover the entire optical disk. The CO emission is strongly peaked toward the nucleus. READ MORE
