  1. 1. Fluorescence studies of complex systems : organisation of biomolecules

    Author : Denys Marushchak; Lennart B.A. Johansson; Alexander Lyubartsev; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fluorescence anisotropy; BODIPY; homo and hetero dimerisation; protein aggregates; protein polymer structures; actin polymerisation; FRET; donor–acceptor energy transfer DAET; donor-donor energy migration DDEM; homotransfer; Monte Carlo simulation; MC; Brownian dynamics; BD; Genetic Algorithm; GA.; Ganglioside GM1; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The homo and hetero dimerisation of two spectroscopically different chromophores were studied, namely: 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diazas-indacene (g-BODIPY) and its 5-styryl-derivative (r-BODIPY). Various spectroscopic properties of the r-BODIPY in different common solvents were determined. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optical characterization of potential drugs and drug delivery systems

    Author : Erik Rosenbaum; Lennart B-Å Johansson; Sven Engström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pilicide; Ganglioside GM1 micelles; Drug Delivery; Elecronic Energy Transfer; UV-Vis Absorption; Fluorescence Spectroscopy; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Abstract : This Thesis is a characterization study on substances having potency as drugs as well as on a lipid based drug-delivery matrix. The optical properties of newly synthesized molecules with proven pilicide properties have been characterized with several spectroscopic methods. READ MORE

  3. 3. Distribution of glycosphingolipids in nervous tissue. Immunohistochemical and biochemical studies

    Author : Marie Molander-Melin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Glycosphingolipids; sulfatide; nervous tissue; immunohistochemical analyses; ; biochemical analyses; rafts.;

    Abstract : Glycosphingolipids (GSLs) are highly enriched in cell membranes of the mammalian nervous system. Their biological functions are not clarified although recent findings have supported their existence in plasma membrane domains, enriched in cholesterol, sphingomyelin and GSLs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Translational studies of molecular interactions in Parkinson’s disease

    Author : Ellen Hertz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Interactions between molecules are the basis of cellular function. In disease, these tightly regulated systems are often disturbed. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is recognized by protein aggregates in the brain of erroneously interacting molecules, directly linking the clinical picture to the molecular mechanisms. READ MORE

  5. 5. GPCRs regulating catecholaminergic cell survival and function : focus on GPR37

    Author : Ebba Gregorsson Lundius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Dysfunction and dysregulation of catecholaminergic signaling are major causes of many neurological and psychiatric disorders, including Parkinson’s disease (PD), schizophrenia, ADHD and drug addiction. Currently an incomplete understanding of the mechanisms regulating the function and survival of catecholaminergic neurons hinders the development of effective treatments. READ MORE
