  1. 1. Atomic Scale Design of Clean Energy Materials : Efficient Solar Energy Conversion and Gas Sensing

    Author : Jawad Nisar; Rajeev Ahuja; Puru Jena; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photocatalysts; Band gap narrowing; Water dissociation; Density functional theory; Gas sensing; Kaolinite; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : The focus of this doctoral thesis is the atomic level design of photocatalysts and gas sensing materials. The band gap narrowing in the metal oxides for the visible-light driven photocatalyst as well as the interaction of water and gas molecules on the reactive surfaces of metal oxides and the electronic structure of kaolinite has been studied by the state-of-art calculations. 2. 2. Characterization of conversion zones in a reciprocating grate furnace firing wet woody biomass

    Author : Narges Razmjoo; Strand Michael; Chungen Yin; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomass combustion; Grate firing; Fuel bed; Moisture; Gas phase; Conversion zone; Experimental; Temperature distribution; Gas analysis; Bioenergiteknik Energi- och Miljöteknik; Bioenergy Technology;

    Abstract : Grate-firing systems are a common and popular combustion technology for burning biomass. However, combustion of biomass in these furnaces may emit a large amount of pollutants in the form of CO, CH4, PAH, NOx, and particles. READ MORE

  3. 3. Renewable gas in a Swedish context

    Author : Laura Malek; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : synthetic natural gas; biomass; gasification; gas grid; techno-economic; tar; ammonia;

    Abstract : In order to increase the use of sustainable energy in Sweden, it is necessary to substitute fossil energy carriers with renewable counterparts. Synthetic natural gas (SNG) produced from renewable resources via biomass gasification and methanation could replace a proportion of the natural gas used in Sweden. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hybrid Solar Gas-Turbine Power Plants : A Thermoeconomic Analysis

    Author : James Spelling; Andrew Martin; Björn Laumert; David Tomas Sanchez Martinez; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solar thermal power; hybrid gas-turbine; thermoeconomics; koncentrerad solenergi; gas-turbiner; ekonomisk analys;

    Abstract : The provision of a sustainable energy supply is one of the most importantissues facing humanity at the current time, and solar thermal power hasestablished itself as one of the more viable sources of renewable energy. Thedispatchable nature of this technology makes it ideally suited to forming thebackbone of a future low-carbon electricity system. READ MORE

  5. 5. Catalytic conversion of syngas to higher alcohols over MoS2-based catalysts

    Author : Robert Andersson; Magali Boutonnet; Sven Järås; Anders Holmen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; conversion; higher alcohols; mixed alcohols; MoS2; syngas; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The present thesis concerns catalytic conversion of syngas (H2+ CO) into a blend of methanol and higher alcohols, an attractive way of producing fuels and chemicals. This route has the potential to reduce the oil dependence in the transport sector and, with the use of biomass for the syngas generation, produce CO2-neutral fuels. READ MORE
