  1. 11. Evolution of the Neuropeptide Y System in Vertebrates with Focus on Fishes

    Author : Tomas Larsson; Dan Larhammar; Svante Winberg; Kenneth H. Wolfe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular biology; neuropeptide Y; GPCR; evolution; gene duplication; vertebrates; ray-finned fishes; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Gene families in vertebrates often contain more dulicates (paralogs) than in invertebrates. This has been attributed to genome duplications, i.e., tetraploidizations. READ MORE

  2. 12. Evolution of acetylcholine receptors and study of the anatomy of the mouse brain reward system

    Author : Julia Pedersen; Dan Larhammar; Arnaud Chatonnet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ventral Tegmental Area; Mesocorticolimbic system; Glutamate; Optogenetics; Histology; Acetylcholine; Receptor; Muscarininc; Nicotinic; G protein-coupled receptor; Gene duplication; Tetraploidization; Synteny; Paralogon; Ohnolog; Zebrafish; Spotted gar; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis work is divided in two parts. In the first part, I make use of the transgenic TRPV1-Cre mouse line as a tool to investigate the midbrain ventral tegmental area (VTA). READ MORE

  3. 13. Origin and the evolution of diatoms through the integration of paleontology and phylogenetics

    Author : Karolina Brylka; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diatoms; evolution; fossil record; Cretaceous; molecular evolution; Mesozoic; silicon transporter proteins; gene duplication;

    Abstract : Diatoms, the prominent photosynthetic eucaryotes, have inhabited the world’s oceans for at least the past 120 Ma since their first appearance in the Lower Cretaceous. There are also records of older diatoms, from the Jurassic dating to ca. 172 Ma and ca. 165 Ma, however these are poorly documented. READ MORE

  4. 14. Sculpted through Time : Evolution and Function of Serine Proteases from the Mast Cell Chymase Locus

    Author : Maike Gallwitz; Lars Hellman; Lars Pilström; Urban Gullberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Immunology; immune system; mast cell; chymase locus; serine protease; evolution; gene duplication; Immunologi;

    Abstract : Immune cells like NK cells, T cells, neutrophils and mast cells store high amounts of granule serine proteases, graspases. Graspases are encoded from the mast cell chymase locus. The human locus holds four genes: α-chymase, cathepsin G, and granzymes H and B. In contrast, the mouse locus contains at least 14 genes. READ MORE
