21. Disease-causing Keratin Mutations and Cytoskeletal Dysfunction in Human Skin : In vitro Models and new Pharmacologic Strategies for Treating Epidermolytic Genodermatoses
Abstract : Epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS) and epidermolytic ichthyosis (EI) are rare skin fragility diseases characterized by intra-epidermal blistering due to autosomal dominant-negative mutations in basal (KRT5 or KRT14) and suprabasal (KRT1 or KRT10) keratin genes, respectively. Despite vast knowledge in the disease pathogenesis, the pathomechanisms are not fully understood, and no effective remedies exist. READ MORE

22. Gene therapy by enzyme replacement for Parkinson’s disease Optimization of continuous DOPA delivery and development of a candidate vector for clinical application
Abstract : The introduction of L-DOPA pharmacotherapy revolutionized the treatment of Parkinson’s disease close to fifty years ago. Before the discovery of dopamine as a neurotransmitter and its involvement in the disease, these patients had very little aid from medication and were bound to a life without movement. READ MORE

23. Gene Therapy with Interferon Alpha and the Angiogenic Inhibitor, Vasostatin, in Neuroendocrine Tumors of the Digestive System
Abstract : IFN-α has been applied in medical treatment of various neuroendocrine (NE) tumors, either alone or combination with somatostatin analogues. They can improve clinical symptoms in 50-70% of patients but a significant tumor reduction is only observed in 5-15% patients. Vasostatin (vaso) is believed to be an angiogenic inhibitor. READ MORE

24. The quest for new improved adenovirus gene therapy vectors against glioma tumours
Abstract : Gene therapy has received much attention the last decade as a method to correct a number of disorders arising from a defective gene. Gene therapy can be defined as the introduction of a functional genetic element into a cell for a therapeutic purpose. READ MORE

25. Myocardial gene therapy and gene expression in angina pectoris
Abstract : Background: Angiogenesis does not fully counteract myocardial ischemia in stable angina pectoris. Refractory angina pectoris, with remaining symptoms despite medication and no possibility for bypass surgery or angioplasty, is rather common. Angiogenic gene therapy is a novel treatment strategy for these patients. READ MORE
