  1. 1. Cardiovascular response to hyperoxemia, hemodilution and burns : a clinical and experimental study

    Author : Zoltan Bak; Birgitta Janerot Sjöberg; Robert Hahn; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anesthesia; general; Burns; Echocardiography; transesophageal; Hemodilution; emodynamic processes; Hyperoxia; Intensive care; Intensivvård;

    Abstract : The last decades less invasive monitoring and analytical tools have been developed for the evaluation of myocardial mechanics in clinical praxis. In critical care, these are longed-for complements to pulmonary artery catheter monitoring, additionally offering previously inaccessible information. READ MORE

  2. 2. Pharmacometric Models in Anesthesia and Analgesia

    Author : Marcus Björnsson; Ulrika Simonsson; Mats Karlsson; Leonid Gibiansky; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacometrics; Anesthesia; Analgesia; Dropout; NONMEM; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi;

    Abstract : Modeling is a valuable tool in drug development, to support decision making, improving study design, and aid in regulatory approval and labeling. This thesis describes the development of pharmacometric models for drugs used in anesthesia and analgesia. READ MORE

  3. 3. Aspects of neonatal intensive care and anesthesia : Thermal balance and respiratory management

    Author : Victoria Karlsson; Johan Ågren; Lena Hellström-Westas; Filip Fredén; Valeria Perez de Sa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neonatal; anesthesia; kangaroo-mother-care; skin-to-skin care; carbon dioxide;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on four articles originating from three studies conducted in the neonatal intensive care unit and the children’s operating deparment at Uppsala University Hospital, Sweden.The overall aim was to obtain new knowledge about thermal balance and care environment in extremely preterm infants during skin-to-skin care (SSC), evaluate different methods of intraoperative monitoring of carbon dioxide (CO2), and to investigate how different levels of inhaled oxygen affect infants’ oxygenation during anesthesia and surgery. 4. 4. Nonlinear Modeling and Feedback Control of Drug Delivery in Anesthesia

    Author : Margarida M. Silva; Alexander Medvedev; Teresa Mendonça; Torbjörn Wigren; Robain De Keyser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; anesthesia; drug delivery; feedback control; nonlinear modeling; pharmacokinetics pharmacodynamics; PID control; system identification; Wiener model; Elektroteknik med inriktning mot reglerteknik; Electrical Engineering with specialization in Automatic Control;

    Abstract : General anesthesia is a drug-induced reversible state where neuromuscular blockade (NMB), hypnosis, and analgesia (jointly denoted by depth of anesthesia - DoA) are guaranteed. This thesis concerns mathematical modeling and feedback control of the effect of the muscle relaxants atracurium and rocuronium, the hypnotic propofol, and the analgesic remifentanil. READ MORE

  5. 5. Maternal Hemodynamic Effects of Medical Gases and Uterotonics in Obstetrics

    Author : Sofus Rabow; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []

    Abstract : Aim of study: To elucidate the hemodynamic effects of pharmaceutical and medical interventions during pregnancy and childbirth on the mother.Introduction: Oxytocin, oxygen, and nitrous oxide are pharmaceuticals very commonly used in labor and delivery. These pharmaceuticals have known cardiovascular adverse effects. READ MORE
