  1. 1. The thermohaline circulation during the Last Glacial Maximum and in the Present-Day climate

    Author : Maxime Ballarotta; Kristofer Döös; David Stevens; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ocean model; circulation; LGM; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : The thermohaline circulation (THC) corresponds to the large time- and spatial-scales ocean circulation associated with the transport of heat and salt, and is known to be an important factor controlling the climate variability. The large scales involved in the THC make it difficult to observe, and therefore the synergy of numerical models and climate proxy reconstructions is particularly relevant to study the characteristics of this circulation in the present and past climates. 2. 2. Obesity-associated inflammation in adipose tissue

    Author : Malin Alvehus; Tommy Olsson; Agneta Holmäng; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipose tissue; inflammation; pro-inflammatory cytokines; serum; obesity; weight loss; menopause;

    Abstract : Background: Excess body fat, particularly in the visceral depot, is linked to increased mortality and morbidity, including the development of diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. Chronic low-grade inflammation in adipose tissue may be a key mediator of obesity-associated diseases. READ MORE

  3. 3. Left ventricular thrombus and stroke after acute myocardial infarction

    Author : Thomas Mooe; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; myocardial infarction; thrombolytic therapy; left ventricular thrombosis; risk factors; cerebral embolism and thrombosis;

    Abstract : A left ventricular thrombus develops in approximately 40% of patients following an anterior myocardial infarction. Embolization from these thrombi has been regarded as the most important cause of stroke following a myocardial infarction. READ MORE

  4. 4. Performing second-hand retail : organizing the material re-circulation of goods

    Author : Lars Hedegård; Peter Dobers; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Second-hand retail; Material re-circulation; ReTuna; Textile management; Shopping mall; Actor-Network Theory; Textil och mode generell ; Textiles and Fashion General ;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns second-hand retail and efforts to prepare used goods for re-circulation. Second-hand retail is one of the most promising forms of alternative retail. However, second hand retailers struggle to attract mainstream consumers and often fail to commercialize most of the used goods donated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Anthropogenic influence on climate through changes in aerosol emissions from air pollution and land use change

    Author : Juan Camilo Acosta Navarro; Ilona Riipinen; Annica M.L. Ekman; Hans-Christen Hansson; Risto Makkonen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; Air quality; Land use; General circulation; Atmosphere-Ocean interactions; Aerosol climate effects; Earth system modelling; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Particulate matter suspended in air (i.e. aerosol particles) exerts a substantial influence on the climate of our planet and is responsible for causing severe public health problems in many regions across the globe. READ MORE
