  1. 1. Some Markov Processes in Finance and Kinetics : Markov Processes

    Author : Mattias Sunden; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CGMY process; Collision kernel; Direct simulation Monte Carlo; Diffusion approximation; Extreme value theory; Feller process; Generalized hyperbolic process; Generalized $z$-process; Infinitesimal generator; Laplace-Beltrami operator; L evy Processes; Long-tailed distribution; Kac equation; Kac model; Markov process; Semigroup; Semi-heavy tailed distirbution; Spectral gap; Subexponential distibrution; Superexponential distribution; Tauberian theorem; Thermostat.; Diffusion approximation;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers. The first two papers treat extremes for L\'evy processes, while papers three and four treat the Kac model with unbounded collision kernel. READ MORE

  2. 2. Arithmetic and Hyperbolic Structures in String Theory

    Author : Daniel Persson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Instantons; Kac-Moody algebras; Spacelike singularities; String Theory;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of an introductory text followed by two separate parts which may be read independently of each other. In Part I we analyze certain hyperbolic structures arising when studying gravity in the vicinity of spacelike singularities (the BKL-limit). READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on boundary values of eigenfunctions on spaces of constant negative curvature

    Author : Pierre Bäcklund; Andreas Juhl; Andreas Strömbergsson; Genkai Zhang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyperbolic space; anti de Sitter space; spectral geometry; scattering theory; analysis on real and complex Lie groups; intertwining operators; Verma modules; analysis on homogeneous spaces; conformal differential geometry; Selberg zeta functions; Algebra; geometry and mathematical analysis; Algebra; geometri och analys;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two papers on the spectral geometry of locally symmetric spaces of Riemannian and Lorentzian signature. Both works are concerned with the idea of relating analysis on such spaces to structures on their boundaries.The first paper is motivated by a conjecture of Patterson on the Selberg zeta function of Kleinian groups. 4. 4. Uncertainty Quantification and Numerical Methods for Conservation Laws

    Author : Per Pettersson; Jan Nordström; Gianluca Iaccarino; Gunilla Kreiss; Rémi Abgrall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; uncertainty quantification; polynomial chaos; stochastic Galerkin methods; conservation laws; hyperbolic problems; finite difference methods; finite volume methods; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : Conservation laws with uncertain initial and boundary conditions are approximated using a generalized polynomial chaos expansion approach where the solution is represented as a generalized Fourier series of stochastic basis functions, e.g. orthogonal polynomials or wavelets. 5. 5. Future stability of the Einstein-Maxwell-Scalar field system and non-linear wave equations coupled to generalized massive-massless Vlasov equations

    Author : Christopher Svedberg; Hans Ringström; Alan Rendall; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of two articles related to mathematical relativity theory. In the first article we prove future stability of certain spatially homogeneous solutionsto Einstein’s field equations. The matter model is assumed to consist of an electromagnetic field and a scalar field with a potential creating an accelerated expansion. READ MORE
