6. Evolutionary optimisation of a morphological image processor for embedded systems
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the design, development and implementation of two digital components to be used, primarily, in autonomously operating embedded systems, such as mobile robots. The first component is an image coprocessor, for high-speed morphological image processing, and the second is a hardware-based genetic algorithm coprocessor, which provides evolutionary computation functionality for embedded applications. 7. Microbial Risks in Surface Water Sources
Abstract : Microbial risks need to be properly handled for the provision of healthy drinking water. The mitigation of pathogens in the water source lowers the risk for infection associated with nominal and suboptimal drinking water treatment. READ MORE

8. Hydrodynamic and Microbiological Modelling of Water Quality in Drinking Water Sources
Abstract : Faecal contamination of drinking water sources poses risks for waterborne disease outbreaks. To manage these risks the fate and transport of faecal contamination in a drinking water source need to be understood and quantitatively described. READ MORE

9. Fuel-Efficient Truck Platooning using Speed Profile Optimization
Abstract : This thesis is concerned with fuel-efficient driving strategies for heavy-dutyvehicles driving on highways with varying topography. A method for reducingthe fuel consumption of single trucks and platoons consisting of several trucksis described and evaluated both in simulation and in real trucks. READ MORE

10. Population genetic analyses in the orchid genus Gymnadenia : a conservation genetic perspective
Abstract : Small populations are facing a particular risk of extinction due to a lack of appropriate genetic diversity and associated negative effects, factors dealt with in the discipline of conservation genetics. Many orchid species exhibit characteristics that make them a perfect study object in the scope of conservation genetics. READ MORE
