  1. 1. Genetic Determinants of Dyslipidemia

    University dissertation from Lund University: Faculty of Medicine

    Author : Tibor V Varga; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2016]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetic epidemiology; Genetic polymorphism; dyslipidaemia; Cholesterol; Triglyceride; Genetic risk; genetic risk score; Single nucleotide polymorphism; Prediction; Gene-environment interactions; Randomized controlled trial; prospective cohort studies; Observational study; GLACIER Study; Diabetes Prevention Program;

    Abstract : Dyslipidemia is a chronic deviation from normal blood lipid levels that can lead to atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases; dyslipidemia and its sequelae are caused by the complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors. Although circulating concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) have a strong genetic underpinning, not much is known about the genetic factors that affect long-term deteriorations in lipid concentrations. 2. 2. Male Subfertility and Prostate Cancer Risk: Epidemiological and Genetic Studies

    University dissertation from Lund University: Faculty of Medicine

    Author : Yasir Ruhayel; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytoplasmic and nuclear; Receptors; Prostatic neoplasms; genetic; Polymorphism; male; Infertility; Hypogonadism; Genetic association studies; Case–control studies; Androgens;

    Abstract : Androgen action plays a pivotal role in male reproductive tract physiology and pathology. The androgen receptor (AR) gene harbors two codon repeat tracts: the CAG and GGN repeats, encoding corresponding amino acid sequences of variable length; the polyglutamine and polyglycine stretches, respectively. 3. 3. On certain genetic and metabolic risk factors for carotid stenosis and stroke

    University dissertation from Institutionen för medicin och vård

    Author : Pär W. Wanby; Linköpings universitet.; Linköpings universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; VETERINARY MEDICINE Medicine; VETERINÄRMEDICIN Medicin; Carotid artery diseases; Carrier proteins; genetics; Cerebrovascular accident; Cerebrovascular disorders; Genetic predisposition to disease; Polymorphism; genetic; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : The present study evaluated genetic and metabolic factors influencing the risk of acute cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and internal carotid artery stenosis (ICA stenosis) in a Swedish community. The threonine (T) containing protein of the FABP2 A54T gene polymorphism has a greater affinity for long chain fatty acids (FFAs) than the alanine (A) containing protein. READ MORE

  4. 4. THE ANDROGEN RECEPTOR GGN POLYMORPHISM. Genetic and functional analyses

    University dissertation from Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University

    Author : Kristina Lundin; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Functional domain; Genetic predisposition; Reproductive function; Sex hormone; Transactivation function; Repeat; Polymorphism; Androgen receptor; Transcription factor; Medicin människa och djur ; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Male sex development and reproductive function is regulated by androgens acting via the androgen receptor (AR). The AR harbours two polymorphic repeats of CAG and GGN triplets, encoding glutamines and glycines, respectively. READ MORE

    Abstract : Stroke is a common, multifactorial cardiovascular disease. A stroke event is the result of traditional risk factors (i.e. hypertension, diabetes, smoking), environmental exposures and genetic factors in a complex interplay. READ MORE
