16. Genetic determinants of breast cancer risk
Abstract : The main purpose of this thesis was to identify genetic risk factors using both hypothesis-based and hypothesis-free approaches. In an attempt to identify common disease susceptibility alleles for breast cancer, we started off with a hypothesis-free approach, and performed a combined analysis of three genome-wide association studies (GWAS), involving 2,702 women of European ancestry with invasive breast cancer and 5,726 controls. 17. Functional analysis of genetic risk markers
Abstract : Regulatory variants are the main factors responsible for genetic predisposition to how e.g. humans react differently to the environment. READ MORE

18. Genetic variants and the risk of type 2 diabetes
Abstract : Type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing worldwide thereby posing a severe burden on individual and public health. Although this increase can be ascribed to both genetic and environmental factors, until 2007, the genetic factors have been largely restricted to a few candidate genes based upon our limited knowledge of the pathogenesis of the disease.
