  1. 16. Genetic determinants of breast cancer risk

    Author : Jingmei Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Breast Neoplasms;

    Abstract : The main purpose of this thesis was to identify genetic risk factors using both hypothesis-based and hypothesis-free approaches. In an attempt to identify common disease susceptibility alleles for breast cancer, we started off with a hypothesis-free approach, and performed a combined analysis of three genome-wide association studies (GWAS), involving 2,702 women of European ancestry with invasive breast cancer and 5,726 controls. 2. 17. Functional analysis of genetic risk markers

    Author : Jesper Robert Gådin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Regulatory variants are the main factors responsible for genetic predisposition to how e.g. humans react differently to the environment. READ MORE

  3. 18. Genetic variants and the risk of type 2 diabetes

    Author : Anna Jonsson; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; insulin secretion; Type 2 diabetes; genome-wide association studies; genetic association;

    Abstract : Type 2 diabetes is rapidly increasing worldwide thereby posing a severe burden on individual and public health. Although this increase can be ascribed to both genetic and environmental factors, until 2007, the genetic factors have been largely restricted to a few candidate genes based upon our limited knowledge of the pathogenesis of the disease. 4. 19. Genetic and immunological risk factors of gestational diabetes mellitus

    Author : Nael Shaat; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; GDM; Association; genetics; gestational diabetes mellitus metabolic syndrome; MODY; type 1 diabetes; risk factors; type 2 diabetes; Endocrinology; diabetology; secreting systems; autoimmunity; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a heterogeneous disorder that is defined as carbohydrate intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. Impaired beta-cell function and insulin resistance are the hallmarks of GDM. READ MORE

  5. 20. Genetic Determinants of Obesity in Relation to Diet, Weight Gain and Mortality

    Author : Gull Rukh; Diabetes - kardiovaskulär sjukdom; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; genetic variants; copy number variants; genetic risk score; BMI; gene-diet interactions; annual weight change; substantial weight gain; sugar-sweetened beverages; mortality; Mendelian randomization;

    Abstract : Obesity is one of the major health concerns that has reached epidemic proportions globally. It is generally believed to be a result of interactions between genetic and environmental factors. READ MORE
