1. Eco-Technologies for Immobilizing Redox Enzymes on Conductive Textiles, for Sustainable Development
Abstract : Enzyme immobilization on electrically conductive supports is necessary to improve their bioactivity and stability, for use and re-use in applications depending on bio-electrochemical response, such as in bioelectrodes, biosensors, or biofuel cells. However, the immobilization methods used are still facing many challenges in terms of health hazards and high environmental impact. READ MORE

2. Materials Based on Protein Nanofibrils
Abstract : Protein nanofibrils (PNFs) prepared from whey protein isolate (WPI) at low pH and elevated temperature were processed into materials, i.e. hydrogels, films, foams, and fibres, for different applications where they could potentially be sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based polymers. 3. Sustainable Biobased Protein Superabsorbents from Agricultural Co-Products
Abstract : The preparation of sustainable protein superabsorbents from agricultural industry side-streams is reported. Wheat gluten (WG), a co-product from the ethanol/starch industry, was processed into foams with sponge-like behavior and high liquid uptake. READ MORE

4. Porous materials based on nanopolysaccharides for medical applications: Effect of crosslinking on pore structure and mechanical performance
Abstract : The objective of this work was to develop nanochitin- and nanocellulose-based crosslinked porous nanostructured materials for wound dressing and cartilage repair with suitable porosity and mechanical properties to facilitate cell growth. In the first part of the work (papers I-III), chitosan-based nanocomposites loaded with a high concentration (50 wt%) of chitin nanocrystals (ChNC) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were prepared via electrospinning for use as wound dressing materials. 5. Chemical Modification of Nanostructured Wood for Functional Biocomposites
Abstract : Recently emerged top-down processing concept has provided new insights into the chemical modification of wood at the nanoscale. Nanostructured wood with naturally aligned cellulose microfibrils, cell wall nanoporosity, and precisely tuned chemical composition has opened up numerous possibilities for advanced design of functional materials.
