  1. 1. Geometric Methods for some Nonlinear Wave Equations

    Author : Jonatan Lenells; Matematik (naturvetenskapliga fakulteten); []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Natural science; Geodesic flow; Nonlinear wave equations; Geometric methods; Naturvetenskap;

    Abstract : A number of results related to the geometric interpretation of some dispersive nonlinear wave equations are presented. It is first described how some well-known shallow water equations arise geometrically as Euler equations for the geodesic flow on the Virasoro group endowed with certain right-invariant metrics. 2. 2. Laser Sheet Imaging and Image Analysis for Combustion Research

    Author : Rafeef Abu-Gharbieh; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : non-linear diffusion filtering; optically dense sprays; curve evolution propagation; image sequence analysis; laser induced fluorescence; geodesic paths; level sets; LIF; optical density; spray characterization; flame propagation; laser; particle image velocimetry; spectroscopy; combustion engines; spray diagnostics; Mie scattering; flame fronts; laser attenuation; tracking; combustion diagnostics; curve matching; combustion; laser sheet imaging; PIV; time resolved imaging; segmentation;

    Abstract : This Thesis presents techniques that aim at exploiting the potential of image analysis and processing in order to solve problems of data reduction, interpolation, quantification, and interpretation within the field of experimental laser imaging of combustion processes. Combustion is the most important source of energy for power generation, heating, and transportation in the world today and its strong dominance is projected to continue in the foreseeable future. 3. 3. Nelson-type Limits for α-Stable Lévy Processes

    Author : Haidar Al-Talibi; Astrid Hilbert; Francesco Russo; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ornstein-Uhlenbeck position process; α-stable Lévy noise; scaling limits; time change; stochastic Newton equations; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : Brownian motion has met growing interest in mathematics, physics and particularly in finance since it was introduced in the beginning of the twentieth century. Stochastic processes generalizing Brownian motion have influenced many research fields theoretically and practically. READ MORE
