    Abstract : Introduction and aims: Postmenopausal hormone therapy (HT) is the most effective treatment for menopausal symptoms, but its safety has been debated during the past 15 years. Previous observational studies showed benefits from HT, whereas subsequent large randomized clinical trials showed an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and other chronic diseases; the pivotal difference between these studies was the average age at HT initiation.
