  1. 1. Singular Ginzburg-Landau Vortices

    Author : Mats Aigner; Matematik (naturvetenskapliga fakulteten); []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; singularities; Ginzburg-Landau; vortices; Matematik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we study the critical Ginzburg-Landau action, defined on fields in the plane which are allowed to have a finite number of singularities. We show that a topological invariant, the degree, can be defined under the assumption of finite action only. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the Finite Element Method for the Time-Dependent Ginzburg-Landau Equations

    Author : Johan Ivarsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; discontinuous Galerkin method; a posteriori error estimate; adaptive finite element method; duality; residual; Ginzburg-Landau equations; superconductivity; residual;

    Abstract : This thesis is primarily concerned with various issues regarding finite element approximation of the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations. The time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations is a macroscopic, phenomenological model of superconductivity, consisting of a system of nonlinear, parabolic partial differential equations. READ MORE

  3. 3. From Macroscopic to Microscopic Dynamics of Superconducting Cavities

    Author : Anirban Bhattacharyya; Vitaliy Goryashko; Volker Ziemann; Roger Ruber; Jean Delayen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; superconducting cavity; superconductivity; self-excited loop; Ginzburg-landau; vortex; optimization; quality factor; microwave; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : Superconducting (SC) radio frequency (RF) cavities are at the heart of many large-scale particle accelerators such as the European Spallation Source (ESS), the X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL), the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS)-II and the proposed International Linear Collider (ILC). The SC cavities are essentially resonant structures with very high intrinsic quality factors (Q0) of the order of 1010. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the Growth of Bone through Stress Driven Diffusion and Bone Generation Processes

    Author : Gustav Lindberg; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bone growth; Osteogenesis; Diffusion in bone; stress enhanced diffusion; Ginzburg-Landau; phase-field; diffusion experiment; Conductivity; Kalman filter; finite element method; Fourier series; Fick’s law; Osteology;

    Abstract : In order to prevent or modify bone degeneration due to rest or due to diseases such as osteopenia and osteoporosis, the modeling and remodeling of bone tissue must be better understood. In this thesis it is assumed that the primary condition leading to bone growth is a change of the chemical environment caused by transport of matter resulting from stress driven diffusion. READ MORE

  5. 5. Global stability analysis of three-dimensional boundary layer flows

    Author : Mattias Brynjell-Rahkola; Dan Henningson; Philipp Schlatter; Ardeshir Hanifi; Spencer Sherwin; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrodynamic stability; transition to turbulence; global analysis; boundary layers; roughness; laminar flow control; Stokes Laplace preconditioner; optimal forcing; crossflow vortices; Ginzburg-Landau; Falkner-Skan-Cooke; Blasius; lid-driven cavity;

    Abstract : This thesis considers the stability and transition of incompressible boundary layers. In particular, the Falkner–Skan–Cooke boundary layer subject to a cylindrical surface roughness, and the Blasius boundary layer with applied localized suction are investigated. READ MORE
