  1. 1. Resistivity and the solid-to-liquid transition in high-temperature superconductors

    Author : Beatriz Espinosa Arronte; Magnus Andersson; Charles Simon; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; high-temperature superconductors; vortex dynamics; vortex solid-to-liquid transition; critical scaling; glass transition; Bose glass; heavy-ion irradiation; YBCO; Tl2Ba2CaCu2O8 d; oxygen deficiency.; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik;

    Abstract : In high-temperature superconductors a large region of the magnetic phase diagram is occupied by a vortex phase that displays a number of exciting phenomena. At low temperatures, vortices form a truly superconducting solid phase which at high temperatures turns into a dissipative vortex liquid. READ MORE

  2. 2. Effect of water on the glass transition and properties of solid-state pharmaceutical formulations

    Author : Ekaterina Bogdanova; Vitaly Kocherbitov; Thomas Rades; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : glass transition; glass transition temperature; relaxation; sucrose; trehalose; maltodextrin; lysozyme; unfolding; hydration; solid-stae; sorption calorimetry; Health and society; Hälsa och samhälle;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to increase our knowledge of the glassy state and the glass transition phenomenon and to evaluate the effect of water on the glassy state. To accomplish this, investigations were focused on the amorphous sucrose-water (paper I, II, III), trehalose-water (paper I), maltodextrin-water (paper I), and lysozyme-sucrose-water (paper IV) systems. 3. 3. Glass Transition Dynamics in Soft Condensed Matter

    Author : Johan Mattsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; polymer films; beta relaxation; hydrogen bond; glass transition; polymer dynamics; cooperativity; confinement; IXS; Brillouin light scattering; excess wing;

    Abstract : Materials of very different character, ranging from polymers to metals can be made into glasses. The structural and dynamical properties of glass-forming materials are fundamentally different from those found in crystals. Hence, glassy materials exhibit unique characteristics, which make them suitable for a wide range of applications. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dynamics of biological membranes and associated water

    Author : Peter Berntsen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dielectric spectroscopy; phase transition; glass transition; DSC; lipid bilayers; lipid dynamics; water dynamics; purple membrane; diffusion; polarisation; QENS.; relaxation; long-range conductivity;

    Abstract : An ingenious assembly of biomolecules and water constitute what we call biological tissue. The presence of water in this assembly is fundamental for the physiological processes and can make the difference between life and death. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cohesive modelling of the temperature dependence of epoxy based adhesives in Mode I and Mode II loading

    Author : Tomas Walander; Ulf Stigh; Anders Biel; Erik Serrano; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cohesive laws; Epoxy adhesive; Fracture energy; Peak stress; Temperature; Regression analyses; Shear modulus; Young’s modulus.; Technology; Teknik;

    Abstract : In this work, the influence of the temperature on the cohesive laws for two epoxy adhesives is studied at temperatures below the glass transition temperature for both Mode I and Mode II loading. Cohesive laws are measured experimentally under quasi-static loading conditions in the temperature range -30≤T≤80"C" . READ MORE
