  1. 1. PDGF in cerebellar development and tumorigenesis

    Author : Johanna Andræ; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; cerebellum; medulloblastoma; PDGF; GFAP; transgenic mice; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Medulloblastoma is a highly malignant cerebellar childhood tumor. As in many other brain tumors, expression of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and its receptors has been shown in medulloblastoma. READ MORE

  2. 2. Experimental studies on glioma cell motility and proliferation

    Author : Adila Salih El-Obeid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; glioma; TGF-α; EGFR; GFAP; motility; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Glioma is a malignant primary brain tumor associated with short patient survival. Various growth factors and cytoskeletal proteins are correlated to glioma progression. In this thesis the effects of transforming growth factor alpha (TGFα) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) were studied. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sequence based analysis of neurodevelopmental disorders

    Author : Jonatan Halvardson; Lars Feuk; Alexandre Reymond; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : In this thesis the main focus is the use of methods and applications of next generation sequencing in order to study three of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders: intellectual disability, epilepsy and schizophrenia. A large fraction of the genes in our genome produce several distinct transcript isoforms through the process of splicing and there is an increasing amount of evidence pinpointing mutations affecting splicing as a mechanism of disease. 4. 4. Investigation of immunological preconditions in MS patients "MS immunopathic trait"

    Author : Sara Haghighi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : multiple sclerosis; siblings; CSF; oligoclonal; cytokine; sulfatide; genetics; trait;

    Abstract : We examined 47 MS patients, 47 healthy siblings and 50 healthy unrelated individuals with blood and CSF analysis and found that 19 % (9/47) of healthy siblings of clinically definite multiple sclerosis patients had an intrathecal immunological reaction to ¡Ý 2 CSF-enriched OCB, in contrast to 4% (2/50) of the unrelated healthy controls. We termed this condition ¡°MS immunopathic trait¡±. READ MORE
