  1. 1. Malignant glioma : experimental studies with an estrogen-linked cytostatic

    Author : Eva von Schoultz; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; malignant glioma; meningioma; glioma cells; sex steroids; estramustine; nor-nitrogen mustard; estramustine- binding protein; DNA damage; cell membrane;

    Abstract : Malignant gliomas are the most common primary brain tumors in adults. Patients with these highly malignant tumors have an extremely poor prognosis. The situation with a highly proliferative tumor in a non-proliferating tissue should favor cytostatic treatment but so far the role of conventional chemotherapy has been adjunctive. READ MORE

  2. 2. Experimental therapies of malignant glioma : with emphasis on angiogenesis inhibition

    Author : Maria Sandström; Roger Henriksson; Mikael Johansson; Anja Smits; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glioma; angiogenesis; VEGF; tyrosinekinaseinhibitor; ZD6474; plasminogenactivator; tPA; uPA; proteomics; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Malignant glioma consists of a group of diseases where the localisation and the nature of the disease makes treatment an extreme challenge. Two important biological features of malignant glioma cells are their infiltrative growth and their ability to induce angiogenesis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cognitive function, quality of life and functional brain networks : before and after glioma surgery

    Author : Mattias Stålnacke; Rickard L. Sjöberg; Tommy Bergenheim; Johan Eriksson; Kenneth Hugdahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioma; Neuropsychology; Neurosurgery; Quality of life; Supplementary Motor Area; Primary motor area. rsfMRI; fMRI; neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery; Oncology; onkologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate how cognitive function and quality of life are affected by glioma surgery in the supplementary motor area (SMA) and the lower primary motor cortex (M1), as well as to explore possible changes in functional network connectivity after surgery in the SMA.Sixteen patients subject to resective neurosurgical procedures due to gliomas in either the SMA or the M1 were studied. 4. 4. Cellular Origin and Development of Glioma

    Author : Nanna Lindberg; Lene Uhrbom; Bengt Westermark; Kristian Pietras; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioma; brain tumor; PDGF; RCAS TV-A; cell of origin; glial cell; oligodendrocyte progenitor cell; DNA repair; homology-directed repair; RAD51; angiogenesis; histidine-rich glycoprotein; Morphology; cell biology; pathology; Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi; Molecular Medicine; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ;

    Abstract : Gliomas are the most common primary tumors of the central nervous system believed to arise from glial cells. Invasive growth and inherent propensity for malignant progression make gliomas incurable despite extensive treatment. READ MORE

  5. 5. Interplay Between Cell of Origin and Oncogenic Activation in Glioma

    Author : Yiwen Jiang; Lene Uhrbom; Anders Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioma; PDGF; cell of origin; Sox5; glioma initiating cells; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Glioma is the most frequent primary tumor of the central nervous system. By using the RCAS/tv-a mouse glioma model, we have studied mechanisms controlling glioma development and the effect of cell of origin on these processes.SOX5 was identified as a brain tumor locus in a retroviral insertional mutagenesis screen of PDGF-B induced mouse gliomas.
